Abstract: An intra-prediction method includes: determining, by an intra-prediction apparatus, a directional intra-prediction mode for a rectangular video coding block from an extended set of directional intra-prediction modes, wherein the extended set of directional intra-prediction modes includes extended directional intra-prediction modes and conventional directional intra-prediction modes and determining, by the intra-prediction apparatus, a plurality of available reference samples based on a direction of the directional intra-prediction mode. The method further includes: intra-predicting, by the intra-prediction apparatus, pixel values of pixels of the rectangular video coding block based on the plurality of available reference samples.

Abstract: A method for constructing a Most Probable Mode (MPM) list is provided. Abstract: An encoding apparatus is described for signaling an extension directional intra-prediction mode within a set of directional intra-prediction modes, the set of directional intra-prediction modes comprising predetermined directional intra-prediction modes and the extension directional intra-prediction mode. The encoding apparatus comprises a mode mapping unit selecting a predetermined directional intra-prediction mode, the selected predetermined directional intra-prediction mode being associated with an intra mode index, and mapping the extension directional intra-prediction mode onto the selected predetermined directional intra-prediction mode. A signaling unit generates a signaling indicator comprising at least one of the intra mode index and a flag value. An intra-prediction unit intra-predicts pixel values of pixels of a rectangular video coding block on the basis of the extension directional intra-prediction mode for providing a predicted rectangular video coding block. An encoding unit encodes the rectangular video coding block on the basis of the predicted rectangular video coding block.

Abstract: An intra-prediction apparatus extends a set of predetermined directional intra-prediction modes of a rectangular video coding block. The intra-prediction apparatus determines an aspect ratio of the rectangular video coding block, and determines a complementary angle range based on the aspect ratio. The apparatus then selects a complementary direction within the complementary directional range, and adds an extension directional intra-prediction mode associated with the complementary direction to the set of predetermined directional intra-prediction modes. Based on the extension directional intra-prediction mode, the apparatus intra-predicts pixel values of pixels of the rectangular video coding block.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for encoding and decoding are provided. The method for intra predicting a chroma sample of a block by applying cross-component linear model includes: obtaining reconstructed luma samples; determining maximum and minimum luma sample values based on the reconstructed luma samples; obtaining a difference of the maximum and minimum luma sample values. The method also includes: fetching a value out of a lookup table (LUT) by using a set of bits as an index, the set of bits following a position of the most-significant bit; obtaining linear model parameters based on the fetched value; and calculating a predicted chroma sample value by using the obtained linear model parameters. The efficiency to fetch the value out of the LUT is increased.

Abstract: Devices and methods of directional intra prediction for chroma component of a picture are provided. The method includes obtaining an initial intra prediction mode of the chroma component, and deriving a chroma intra prediction mode (intraPredModeC) from a look up table (LUT) by using the initial intra prediction mode of the chroma component. The chroma component has different subsampling ratios in horizontal and vertical directions. The method further includes performing wide-angle mapping on the chroma intra prediction mode (intraPredModeC) to obtain a modified intraPredModeC; obtaining an angle parameter for the chroma component based on the modified intraPredModeC; and obtaining predicted samples of the chroma component based on the angle parameter. The method provides the minimum number of entries in the LUT that is used to determine chroma intra prediction mode from the initial chroma intra prediction mode.

Abstract: Provided are a method, an apparatus, a computer program product and a non-transitory computer-readable medium for video coding. The method comprises performing an intra-prediction process of a block comprising samples to be predicted, wherein an interpolation filter is applied to reference samples of the block during the intra-prediction process of the block. The interpolation filter is selected on the basis of a subpixel offset between the reference samples and the samples to be predicted, and a size of a main reference side used in the intra-prediction process is determined according to a length of the interpolation filter and an intra-prediction mode that provides, out of a 10 set of available intra-prediction modes, the greatest non-integer value of said subpixel offset, wherein the main reference side comprises the reference samples.

A method includes: performing intra-prediction processing of the current block according to a directional intra-prediction mode, including applying reference sample filtering or subpixel interpolation filtering to reference samples in one or more reference blocks, wherein the directional intra-prediction mode is classified into one of the following groups: (A) vertical or horizontal modes, (B) directional modes including diagonal modes that represent angles which are multiples of 45 degrees, (C) remaining directional modes; if the directional intra-prediction mode is classified as belonging to group B, a reference sample filter is applied to the reference samples; if the directional intra-prediction mode is classified as belonging to group C, an intra reference sample interpolation filter is applied to the reference samples.
