The large number of minute exfoliated recessions function as oil reservoir spots.

Reaction force of the compressed gas applied to the piston and causing axial load acting on the swash plate and the drive shaft is buffered by buffer structure. The buffer structure comprises a first bearing interposed between a first surface of the swash plate and the cylinder block. The buffer structure has a second bearing interposed between a second surface of the swash plate and the cylinder block. One of the bearings is arranged to be flexibly deformable to absorb the axial load while the other bearing is arranged to be rigid to receive the axial load and transmit the axial load to the cylinder block.

A valve assembly in a piston type refrigerant compressor is disclosed. The valve assembly includes a retainer formed integrally with a gasket plate for restricting the opening of a discharge reed valve of the compressor, and having on opposite sides at the distal portion thereof stay portions integral with the gasket plate for rigidly holding the retainer. According to the present invention, provision is made to guide some part of the refrigerant gas compressed in a cylinder bore to be discharged into a discharge chamber in such a way that the influence of the discharge gas pressure on the retainer at its distal end is reduced. In some embodiments of the invention, this is accomplished by guiding and allowing part of the gas to flow toward the proximal portion of the retainer to discharge the gas.

A swash plate type compressor which includes a pair of cylinder blocks. The cylinder blocks contains a crank case and a plurality of cylinders leading to a suction port. A pair of housing sections cover the cylinder blocks, and contain a suction chamber leading to each about the center of the cylinders, and a discharge chamber which is fluidly connected to the cylinders. The cylinder blocks rotatably support a drive shaft. The suction chamber contains a shaft sealing device in order to seal a forward section of the drive shaft. A refrigerant fluid within the crank case is sucked into the cylinders via the suction chamber. A refrigerant passage is provided along the central axis of the drive shaft. A plurality of inlet and outlet ports are connected to the refrigerant passage and to the crank case and suction chamber. The refrigerant passage, the outlet ports and the inlet ports form a refrigerant suction passage. Consequently, the refrigerant concentration in the suction chamber is rendered uniform, and the reliability of the shaft sealing device is improved.

The ring member having an outer surface comprising a main sealing portion having an axially uniform shape and an outwardly circumferentially projecting flexible lip portion. Also, the inner surface of the ring member comprises an inner bearing portion able to come into contact with a first portion of a bottom surface of the ring groove such that the flexible lip portion of the outer surface is brought into contact with a cylinder wall of the cylinder bore and preflexed inwardly. An inner pressure receiving portion is formed adjacent to the inner bearing portion to receive pressure from the compression chamber, to further flex the flexible lip portion upon a compression stroke of the compressor and thereby allow the ring member to expand and the main sealing portion to come into contact with the cylinder wall of the cylinder bore.

A multi-piston swash plate type compressor for an air-conditioning system used in a vehicle such as an automobile, including a cylinder block body having a swash plate chamber formed therein for receiving a swash plate and cylinder bores formed therein for receiving pistons which are reciprocated by rotation of the swash plate. The compressor has a suction chamber which is fed with a refrigerant including lubricating oil from an evaporator of the air-conditioning system and a discharge chamber which feeds the compressed refrigerant to a condenser of the air-conditioning system. When the compressed refrigerant is discharged from the cylinder bore into the discharge chamber through a discharge reed valve, all of the discharged refrigerant is impinged on the peripheral and inner wall so as to separate the lubricating oil from the refrigerant, whereby an effective damping and sealing oil layer is formed between the discharge reed valve and the valve seat thereof.
