A phenol and a ketone are reacted to form bisphenol, and the liquid bisphenol obtained or a mixed solution of said solution and a phenol is filtered through a calcined metal filter to obtain bisphenol which makes it possible to efficiently obtain bisphenol which either does not contain fine particulate impurities or contains such impurities only in minute amounts, and a method for manufacturing polycarbonate using bisphenol obtained by this method. The filtration grade of the calcined metal filter should be 1.0 .mu.m or less. After filtering, the calcined metal filter can be backwashed or chemically washed and then reused. The bisphenol should preferably be bisphenol A.

To provide novel polycarbonates and a manufacturing method for them.Copolycarbonates obtained by copolymerizing at least two aromatic dihydroxy compounds and a compound capable of introducing carbonate links. A method of recycling fusible polycondensation resin waste in a fusion polymerization apparatus is disclosed. The method of recycling polycondensation resins comprises adding polycondensation resin waste directly to a fusion polymerization apparatus to carry out the polycondensation reaction. The polycondensation resin waste may be supplied from any point of the polycondensation apparatus to carry out the exchange reaction and/or the polycondensation reaction between the resin being prepared in the apparatus and the resin waste supplied. The method may be carried out in a continuous fusion polycondensation system with more than one polymerization reactor connected in series. The polycondensation resin waste may be supplied from the outlet of a polymerization reactor during the initial stage of the polycondensation process (oligomerisation process) to carry out the exchange reaction and/or the polycondensation reaction between the resin waste and the resin being prepared in the later stage of the polycondensation process in a continuous fusion polycondensation apparatus with more than one polymerization reactor connected in series.
