Abstract:
A lighting arrangement using LEDs that has an elongated translucent diffuser having a flat upper surface along the length of the diffuser. The transverse cross-section of the elongate translucent diffuser may have various shapes, all having substantially flat tops, including but not limited to quadrangular, rectangular, trapezoidal, and non-isosceles variations of these shapes. The elongated translucent diffuser is mounted on an elongated housing of substantially the same length to support the diffuser. The elongated housing may be solid or hollow and may contain the LEDs and circuit board, or the LEDs and circuit board may be contained within the elongated translucent diffuser. The LEDs are configured to transmit light through the diffuser so that the emitted light simulates light from a traditional neon tube.
Abstract:
A vibratory pipeline diagnostic system (100) is provided. The system (100) comprises at least one vibration generator (104) adapted to be affixed to a pipeline, at least one vibration sensor (107) adapted to be affixed to the pipeline, and a processing device (111) in communication with the at least one vibration generator (104) and the at least one vibration sensor (107). The processing device (111) is configured to vibrate a portion of the pipeline using the at least one vibration generator (104), receive a vibrational response to the vibration from the at least one vibration sensor (107), compare the vibrational response to one or more previous vibrational responses of the pipeline, and indicate a fault condition if the vibrational response differs from the one or more previous vibrational responses by more than a predetermined tolerance.
Abstract:
A snowboard binding (100) is disclosed having a base plate (102) with a highback (120) pivotally attached. A locking lever (130) is disposed on the back of the highback for locking the highback in a generally upright position with a desired maximum forward lean. A flexible member such as a strap (140) or a panel (202), cord guide (204), and cord (206) attached to the highback and to the locking lever to facilitate moving the lever between an open position and a locked position. In an embodiment of the invention, the base plate includes a pair of oppositely-disposed, pivotable sidewalls (104) and the highback is attached to the base plate with a heel loop (112) that pivotably engages the sidewalls, such that straps (108, 110) mounted to the sidewalls move to engage the boot (90) when the highback is moved to an upright position.
Abstract:
A device for the treatment of an influent with a nonbonded media, and when the media becomes spent, the media is fluidized with a backwash fluid. Concentric inner and outer perforated cylinders contain a column of media therebetween. The influent is passed radially inwardly through the column of media and into the lower portion of the inner perforated cylinder, where the effluent is removed from the device. During a backwash operation, a backwash fluid is forced into the lower portion of the inner perforated cylinder, radially outwardly into the column of media to provide an upwardly directed drag force. When the drag force exceeds the buoyant weight of the media, the media is fluidized so that the contaminants can be removed therefrom by the backwash fluid.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and system for determining three-dimensional refractive gradient index distribution. The method and system of the present invention determine inhomogeneity data and calculate index of refraction changes in three-dimensions (3D). The method and system provide 3D modeling of an optical object or system that determines the three-dimensional distribution of the refractive index in the object. In one embodiment, the optical object is a blank. In different embodiments, the optical system is more than one blank. In alternative embodiments, the optical system can be a projection optics system that can include optical components such as lenses, filters, plates, and prisms. The present invention also provides a method for selecting a plurality of preferred optical elements to assemble a composite optical system with predetermined parameters.
Abstract:
An embodiment of a snowboard boot with removable upper support includes a sole portion that cooperatively with an upwardly extending boot upper provides a volume for receiving a user's foot. The boot upper has a high back portion that includes an interior pocket adapted to receive a generally Y-shaped stiffening insert. The pocket is provided at the back of the upper, by attaching a back panel to the upper, the back panel having a front panel attached to the front side, thereby forming a pocket. Slots are provided at the top corners of the back panel that can slidably engage the upper tabs of the insert, thereby locking the insert in place.
Abstract:
A sign for the displaying of a number of characters in either a first orientation or at least one additional orientation. The sign includes a frame and a series of characters, including at least one variable position character, mounted to the frame. The variable position character is movable relative to the frame such that it may be read in different positions, to display a message when the variable position character is either in a first orientation or a second orientation. The variable position character may be interconnected with the frame via a pivoting mechanism for adjusting the orientation of the variable position character. The pivoting mechanism may include a latching mechanism that secures the variable position character in a selected orientation. The characters may each include a source of illumination, such as LEDs, that are interconnected with a power supply for selectively illuminating the LEDs.
Abstract:
A method and system is provided for minimizing delays in a magnetic ranging method. Delays are minimized by establishing synchronicity between triggering of a three-axis magnetometer and energisation of a solenoid assembly deployed in the borehole being drilled and the first borehole, respectively. Synchronicity enables measuring various components of the alternating magnetic field created by energisation of the solenoid assembly by the magnetometer, the moment the solenoid assembly is energised. The recorded components are used for computation of steering data for drilling the second borehole relative to the first borehole. The steering data can be determined at the surface or downhole.
Abstract:
A spray device for cleaning residue from a filter member. In one embodiment, the spray device includes a tubular stem telescopically slideable in a sleeve. A coil spring surrounds the stem and resists movement of the stem out of the sleeve. A tubular halo with nozzles is fastened to the end of the tubular stem so that when a pressurized fluid is applied to the stem, the stem is forced out of the sleeve against the spring force, thereby causing the halo to travel along a cylindrical filter surface. The pressurized fluid is also jetted from the nozzles and cleans the cylindrical surface. When the pressurized fluid is removed from the spray device, the spring retracts the stem and the halo back to a rest position. In another embodiment, the halo is replaced with a nozzle head that moves within a cylindrical filter surface to be cleaned.
