The invention provides a composite dielectric filter device that can easily improve the isolation characteristics between mutually adjacent filters, even when using a compact dielectric block to miniaturize the entire configuration of the device. The invention also provides a communication apparatus incorporating the filter device. In the filter device, inner conductor holes are arranged inside a single dielectric block, and an outer conductor is formed on outer faces of the dielectric block. Additionally, an outer-conductor-free portion is formed at the boundary between a transmission filter and a reception filter formed by the inner conductor holes.

In the dielectric filter, data is obtained in advance showing the relationships between the amounts that specified parts of a conductive film or a dielectric member are trimmed, and the corresponding changes in the values of a center frequency and a coupling coefficient between resonators. Further, adjustment values are obtained from the initial characteristics of the dielectric filter to be adjusted, and then, the targeted amounts of trimming are obtained from the adjustment values, targeted adjustment values, and the aforementioned data concerned so as to perform trimming.

In this filter, inside a dielectric block, there are disposed inner-conductor-formed holes in which inner conductors are formed on the inner surfaces of the holes. Coupling electrodes are arranged on an outer surface of the dielectric block and are electrically connected to the inner conductors. Additionally, the coupling electrodes are extended, for example, from the edge of an opening surface of the dielectric block which contains the open ends of the inner-conductor-formed holes, onto a side surface which is disposed parallel to a direction in which the inner-conductor-formed holes are aligned. The invention also provides a duplexer and a communication apparatus using the dielectric filter.

A ridgeline between an open-side end surface and a mounting surface of a dielectric block is removed to form a slope, and input/output electrodes are provided extending from near the open-side end surface of the slope and crossing to the mounting surface, the input/output electrodes being isolated from a ground conductor.
