    Abstract: The present applications at least describes a method of making a tuned ceramic filter. The method includes printing an oversized pattern of ceramic material on a ceramic filter. The method also include removing, at a first tune location of the ceramic filter, a first amount of the ceramic material using a laser to shrink the oversized pattern. The method also includes comparing a coupling matrix of the ceramic filter after the removing step with a coupling matrix of a prototype of the ceramic filter. The method includes a step of generating a tune vector based upon a difference between the coupling matrix of the ceramic filter and the coupling matrix of the prototype filter. Further, the method includes a step of iteratively modifying the removing of the ceramic material using femto-second laser at the first tune location to have a coefficient of the tune vector corresponding to the first tune location to converge toward zero.

    Abstract: A high frequency band pass filter with a coupled surface mount transition is provided, including a filter substrate, circuit connection elements defining input and an output elements provided on a surface of the filter substrate, electronic filter components provided on the first surface of the filter substrate, and impedance matching structures provided on the first surface of the filter substrate between the electronic filter components and the respective input and output elements. Signal connection structures are provided on an opposed surface of the filter substrate, in locations that positionally correspond to respective positions of the input and output elements. The respective signal connection elements are capacitively coupled, through a thickness direction of the filter substrate, to a respective one of the input and output elements on the opposed surface of the filter substrate without the presence of any vertical conductive structures within the filter substrate at the input and the output elements.

    Abstract: An apparatus includes a top conductive layer of on an integrated circuit waveguide filter and a bottom conductive layer. The top and bottom conductive layers are coupled via a plurality of couplers that form an outline of the waveguide filter. A dielectric substrate layer is disposed between the top conductive layer and the bottom conductive layer of the integrated circuit waveguide filter. The dielectric substrate layer has a relative permittivity, εr that affects the tuning of the integrated circuit waveguide filter. At least one tunable via includes a tunable material disposed within the dielectric substrate layer and is coupled to a set of electrodes. The set of electrodes enable a voltage to be applied to the tunable material within the tunable via to change the relative permittivity of the dielectric substrate layer and to enable tuning the frequency characteristics of the integrated circuit waveguide filter.

    Abstract: A power combiner/divider includes a main conductor defining an axis; an input connector having a center conductor, adapted to be coupled to a signal source, electrically coupled to the main conductor and having an axis aligned with the main conductor axis, and having a second conductor electrically coupled to a ground conductor; a plurality of satellite conductors radially exterior of and spaced apart from the main conductor, the satellite conductors defining the general shape of a slotted hollow cylinder having a cylinder axis aligned with the main conductor axis; a plurality of output connectors having respective axes that are perpendicular to the main conductor axis, the output connectors being radially spaced apart relative to the main conductor, the output connectors having center conductors electrically coupled to respective satellite conductors and having respective second conductors electrically coupled to a second ground conductor; and a multiconductor transmission line, including the satellite conductors, defined between the input connector and the output connectors. Methods of manufacturing are also disclosed.
