Abstract: Disclosed herein is a pouch-shaped battery case configured to receive an electrode assembly having a separator interposed between positive and negative electrodes, together with an electrolytic solution, the pouch-shaped battery case including an outer coating layer defining an outer surface of the battery case and configured to protect the electrode assembly from an outside of the battery case, the outer coating layer made of a polymer resin, a metal barrier layer located between the outer coating layer and an inner surface of the battery case, the metal barrier layer having high moisture-blocking efficiency and high thermal conductivity, and an inner sealant layer located between the metal barrier layer and an inner surface of the battery case, the inner sealant layer made of a polymer resin that has high thermal fusibility, the metal barrier layer includes a first metal that has high formability and a second metal that has high rigidity.

Abstract: A battery cell includes an electrode assembly and a battery case. The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The battery case includes an upper case and a lower case, at least one of the upper case and the lower case being provided with a receiving part, in which the electrode assembly is mounted. One end of each of electrode tabs extending from electrode plates of the electrode assembly is coupled to a corresponding end of an electrode lead, which protrudes outward from the battery case. The electrode lead is provided with at least one notch part configured to rupture in response to expansion deformation of the battery case when the pressure in the battery cell increases to achieve the electrical cutoff of the battery.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for sealing a pouch casing of a pouch-type secondary battery, which includes the steps of: a receiving step in which an electrode assembly is received in an inner space formed between an upper pouch and a lower pouch; and a sealing step in which a first pressure is applied to an outer circumferential sealing portion, where the upper pouch and the lower pouch are sealed, in the longitudinal direction, and then the pressure is relieved, wherein the sealing step is carried out by applying external force to the upper pouch in the upward direction and to the lower pouch in the downward direction, or by applying a second pressure working in perpendicular to the first pressure to the sealing portion from the inner part of the pouch casing in a direction toward the outside.

Abstract: A secondary battery configured to have a structure in which an electrode assembly is received in a battery case together with an electrolytic material, wherein the battery case is provided therein with a space for receiving the electrode assembly and wherein the battery case is made of a thermoplastic resin, which can be injection-molded. An injection mold may be formed such that the size of the mold corresponds to the thickness of the electrode, thereby solving a problem in which the formability of a conventional laminate sheet including a metal layer is low. In addition, a process of forming the laminate sheet and a process of sealing the battery case using a pressing member, which are essentially required in order to use the laminate sheet, may be omitted, whereby a manufacturing process is simplified and thus productivity is improved.
