    摘要: A rotational atherectomy device which includes a handle housing and an exchangeable drive shaft cartridge removably attachable to the handle housing. A rotatable prime mover is carried by a prime mover carriage disposed within the handle housing, the prime mover carriage being longitudinally movable with respect to the handle housing. The exchangeable cartridge includes a cartridge housing which is removably attachable to the handle housing, a longitudinally movable tube which is removably attachable to the prime mover carriage, and a rotatable flexible drive shaft which is removably attachable to the prime mover. The rotational atherectomy device includes a cartridge latch, which removably locks the cartridge housing to the handle housing, and a tube latch which selectively locks the longitudinally movable tube against longitudinal movement with respect to the cartridge housing. The exchangeable cartridge also includes a slide which is longitudinally movable with respect to the cartridge housing among at least three positions: a working position where the slide causes the tube latch to unlock the longitudinally movable tube, a neutral position where the slide causes the tube latch to lock the tube against longitudinal movement with respect to the cartridge housing, and a cartridge unlocked position where the slide causes the tube latch to maintain the longitudinally movable tube in its locked position and unlocks the cartridge latch, thereby permitting the cartridge housing to be removed from the handle housing.

    摘要: A rotational atherectomy device for abrading a stenotic lesion from a vessel of a patient comprises a flexible drive shaft (1) which extends towards a distal end of the device, a distal fluid inflatable support element (3, 3″) located at a distal end of the drive shaft and an abrasive element (5) mounted to the drive shaft proximal to and spaced away from the distal fluid inflatable support element. Both the abrasive element and the distal fluid inflatable support element are rotatable together with the drive shaft and the drive shaft comprises a torque transmitting coil (2) which defines a long lumen of the drive shaft. The distal fluid inflatable support element is formed from a fluid impermeable membrane (9, 9″) that crosses a longitudinal axis (x-x) common to the torque transmitting coil and the lumen of the drive shaft at the distal end of the device, thereby preventing pressurized fluid flowing along the lumen of the drive shaft from entering the vessel in the direction of said longitudinal axis so that fluid has to pass through the fluid inflatable support element, inflating said support element and exiting from the device through an outflow opening (66) in the fluid inflatable support element in a direction different from the direction of the longitudinal axis of the coil and the lumen.

In accordance with this method, an inner helical coil having a lumen and a proximal end is formed by winding a plurality of wires about a forming mandrel. An outer helical coil having a lumen and a proximal end is formed by winding a single wire with a mandrel-less coil forming machine. The inner helical coil is positioned within the outer helical coil to define a drive shaft. The inner and outer helical coils are oriented such that the inner helical coil is wound in a direction opposite that in which the outer helical coil is wound.
