摘要: An apparatus in which articles are stapled to one another. A staple is driven through the article so that a portion thereof protrudes therefrom. The staple legs protruding through the articles are bent into substantial contact therewith so as to clinch the staples. In the clinched position, the staple legs are closely adjacent to one another and may be overlapping. During the clinching operation, the staple legs are guided by a groove in the surface affecting bending. Initially, the stapled leg is received in the central region of the groove. The central region of the groove has a greater cross-sectional area than the end region thereof.

摘要: A method for preparing a transparency involves application of hot melt ink to a transparent substrate to form a three-dimensional pattern with subsequent heating of the hot melt image above its melting point to change the configuration of the upper surface. In the embodiment described in the specification, a hot melt ink image on a substrate is treated in a continuous manner by moving it along a platen having a heating zone to melt drops of hot melt ink and cause them to spread on the substrate. The platen has a flat central portion and curved portions at each end with curvatures sufficient to prevent formation of cockle. At the output end of the heating zone, the substrate is moved continuously into a quenching zone where a cooling platen cools the substrate by thermal contact at a rapid rate to prevent crystallization or frosting of the hot melt ink image. After the quenching zone, the substrate is moved along a surface having a reverse curvature with respect to the curved portions of the heating platen to eliminate residual curvature of the substrate resulting from the curved portions of the heating platen.

摘要: In the representative embodiments of the invention described in the specification, an ink jet head has a series of aligned arrays of ink jet orifices arranged to project drops of different colored inks in sequence to the same location on a substrate during each scan of the ink jet head adjacent to the substrate. The spacing of the orifices in each aligned array and the speed of the ink jet head during the scanning are arranged so that all the ink drops applied at the same location on the substrate are applied in a time period of no more than about 100 milliseconds and preferably no more than 50 milliseconds. Moreover, to avoid banding the lines produced by successive scans of the head are interlaced so as to produce a periodic frequency of no more than about four lines per millimeter.

摘要: In the embodiment of the cleaning device described in the specification, a web of paper is movable past the orifice plate of an ink jet head from a supply roll to a take-up roll. The cleaning device has a movable front end portion with two pressure bars positioned to urge the web of paper against two portions of the orifice plate, one portion being in line with the orifices and the other below the orifices. The pressure bar supports are arranged so that the bar positioned in line with the orifices engages the web after the other bar has urged the web against the orifice plate. The cleaning device also collects ink ejected during purging of air from the system and may be positioned to prevent ejection of ink during an internal purging operation.

摘要: In the particular embodiments of the invention described in the specification, a projection transparency includes a transparent substrate and an ink pattern disposed on one surface of the transparent sheet in the form of three-dimensional ink spots having curved surfaces with a radius of curvature of at least 3 mils and an angle of contact with the substrate of no more than about 25.degree.. The transparency is prepared by applying ink drops to the substrate and maintaining the ink at a temperature above its melting point for a selected time such as 0.5 to 10 seconds. Thereafter, the ink is cooled rapidly to reduce crystallization and frosting and thereby reduce light transmission losses in the ink to less than 50%.

摘要: Providing plural precollated sets of copies by plurally recirculating a set of documents and normally making two consecutive identical copies per document per circulation, at one-half the copying rate of the copier, feeding these pairs of identical copy sheets separately into two of only 3 (or 4) movable compiler bins, sequentially accumulating and stacking these copy sheets into completed, compiled, collated copy sheet sets in each of the two compiler bins, and then removing the sets one at a time for finishing, from the opposite side of the bins, and sequentially changing, for subsequent circulations of the sets of documents, which 2 of the 3 compiler bins are being fed pairs of copy sheets, and which compiler bin is not, so that a compiled set of copy sheets may be removed from its bin or left in awaiting finishing of a prior set without having any copy sheets fed into that bin, in coordination with and without interfering with said feeding and directing of other copy sheets into other compiler bins. Preferably two copy sheets are fed into the same compiler bin in directly immediate sequence (the second copy of one document and the first copy of the next document) to reduce the number of operations of the bin gates. When there are an odd number of documents, preferably three identical copies are made of each document in a final copying circulation of the document set and fed into all 3 bins, unless the copies are duplex and there are too many documents for plural duplex buffer sets.

摘要: A high resolution ink jet printer includes a rotating drum and a pair of ink jet heads scanned along a substrate carried by the drum in a direction parallel to the axis of the drum. The heads are driven by a lead screw coupled to the drum drive shaft and a control unit controls the rate of drop ejection from the printheads at a rate corresponding to the rate of encoder signals received from an encoder coupled to the drum drive draft. One printhead receives and ejects drops of black, magenta, cyan and yellow high-density inks and the other printhead ejects drops of black, magenta and cyan low-density inks along with another ink which may be a different color or black ink of a different density. High resolution and high print quality are assured by accurate control of the distance between the drum support shaft and the drum surface and also between the drum support shaft and a carriage support rail on which the printhead is supported as it moves adjacent to the drum surface. For hot melt ink, a heater is provided adjacent to the drum surface to maintain the drum surface temperature at a constant level below the melting point of the ink and a housing surrounding the printer has a controlled temperature zone to maintain the ambient temperature about 10° C. below the drum temperature.
