Abstract: A vehicular rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror reflective element that has a flexible glass substrate with a mirror reflector coating at a surface of the flexible glass substrate. An electrically-operated actuator is operable to cause flexing of the flexible glass substrate. With the vehicular rearview mirror at a vehicle, and responsive to actuation of a user input by a driver of the vehicle, the electrically-operated actuator operates to adjust a curvature of the flexible glass substrate to adjust at least a portion of a rearward view of the driver of the vehicle when viewing the mirror reflective element.

Abstract: A method for assembling a vehicular interior prismatic rearview mirror assembly includes providing a glass mirror substrate. The rear surface of the glass mirror substrate is coated with a reflector coating, and a protective coating is disposed over the reflector coating. A rear perimeter edge region of the glass mirror substrate is chamfered so that an angled surface is disposed between the rear surface and the perimeter edge. The reflector coating and the protective coating are disposed at the rear surface where the angled surface meets the rear surface. An encapsulant is disposed about a perimeter region of the rear surface so as to encompass and overlay the reflector coating and the protective coating at the rear surface and so as to encompass and overlay a portion of the angled surface, with no part of the encapsulant being disposed at the forward rounded perimeter region.

Abstract: An electrochromic mirror reflective element for a vehicular rearview mirror assembly includes front and rear glass substrates with an electrochromic medium disposed therebetween and with a fourth surface reflector coated at the fourth surface of the rear substrate. Light incident at the first surface of the front substrate passes (i) through the front substrate, (ii) through a transparent electrically conductive coating at the second surface of the front substrate and (iii) through the electrochromic medium, whereby light passing through the electrochromic medium is partially reflected at a third surface reflector and is partially transmitted through the third surface reflector, and wherein light passing through the electrochromic medium that is partially transmitted through the third surface reflector passes through the rear substrate and is at least partially reflected off the fourth surface reflector at the fourth surface of the rear substrate to provide enhanced reflectivity of said electrochromic mirror reflective element.

Abstract: A rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle includes a mirror reflective element having a first glass substrate and a second glass substrate with an electro-optic medium sandwiched therebetween and bounded by a perimeter seal. The first glass substrate has a first surface and a second surface and the second glass substrate has a third surface and a fourth surface. The second surface has a transparent electrically conductive coating that opposes and contacts the electro-optic medium and the third surface has an electrically conductive coating that opposes and contacts the electro-optic medium. A front substrate has a rounded perimeter edge region that has a radius of curvature of at least 2.5 mm and that spans between a front side and a rear side of the front substrate. The rear side of the front substrate is adhesively attached at the first surface of the first glass substrate of the mirror reflective element.

Abstract: A reflective element assembly for a vehicular rearview mirror assembly includes front and rear substrates with an electro-optic medium disposed therebetween. An electrical connector has an attachment portion and a wire receiving portion for receiving an electrical wire therein. A flange of the attachment portion is configured to be disposed at a fourth surface of the rear substrate and a tab is configured to extend at least partially across a perimeter edge of the rear substrate. An electrically conductive material is disposed in an uncured state and uncured electrically conductive material flows at least partially through the aperture and is cured to secure the electrical connector at the rear substrate. The wire receiving portion of the electrical connector is configured to receive the electrical wire therein and includes at least one tang that engages the electrical wire when the electrical wire is inserted into the wire receiving portion.

Abstract: A vehicular driver monitoring system includes a driver monitoring camera disposed at an interior rearview mirror assembly of a vehicle. The driver monitoring camera views a driver of the vehicle when the driver is driving the vehicle. The driver monitoring camera captures image data. An image processor is operable to process image data captured by the driver monitoring camera. The vehicular driver monitoring system determines driver performance based at least in part on (i) image processing by the image processor of image data captured by the driver monitoring camera, (ii) a vehicle characteristic and (iii) a condition exterior of the equipped vehicle. The vehicle characteristic includes at least one selected from the group consisting of (a) vehicle speed, (b) vehicle acceleration and (c) vehicle orientation.

Abstract: A multifunctional rear camera system includes a rear camera and a processor. Responsive to processing of captured image data, the processor generates respective outputs for (i) a rear backup assist function, (ii) a mirror dimming control for at least an electro-optic interior rearview mirror assembly of the vehicle and (iii) ambient light detection. The processor processes a mirror zone of captured image data for mirror dimming control and processes upper corner regions of captured image data for ambient light detection. The processor processes at least lower regions of captured image data for the rear backup assist function. The generated output for the mirror dimming control is provided to the electro-optic interior rearview mirror assembly to control dimming of the electro-optic reflective element. The generated output for the rear backup assist function provides (i) object detection and/or (ii) video display of video images derived from captured image data.

Abstract: A method for assembling an electro-optic mirror reflective element for a vehicular rearview mirror assembly includes providing a container having a plurality of holes for dispensing spacer beads, supporting the container over a dispensing area via an electrically powered shaking device, positioning a glass substrate at the dispensing area, and automatically shaking the container so that spacer beads fall through the holes in the container and onto the glass substrate. The shaking of the container is controlled so that the shaking device is deactivated after an appropriate amount of spacer beads are dispensed onto the glass substrate. The glass substrate is mated with another glass substrate with the dispensed spacer beads between the glass substrates and bounded by a perimeter seal. The cavity between the glass substrates is filled with an electro-optic medium, and the cavity is sealed with the electro-optic medium and spacer beads disposed therein.
