    Abstract: A vehicular rearview mirror control system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly, a driver-side exterior rearview mirror assembly, and a rearward-viewing camera. The system, via processing of a first subset of captured image data, is operable to determine ambient light rearward of the vehicle, and via processing of a second subset of the captured image data, is operable to determine light emanating from a headlight of a following vehicle. Responsive to determining that the light emanating from the following vehicle's headlight is at a driver-side region and glares a driver of the vehicle, the system dims the driver-side exterior rearview mirror assembly to reduce glare to the driver. Responsive to determining that the determined light emanating from the following vehicle's headlight is at a central region and glares the driver of the vehicle, the system dims the interior rearview mirror assembly to reduce glare to the driver.

    Abstract: A vehicular interior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror head having an interior mirror reflective element. The mirror reflective element has a mirror transflector that transmits near-IR light incident thereon, transmits visible light incident thereon and reflects visible light incident thereon. The mirror assembly includes a camera disposed within the mirror head and viewing through the mirror transflector. The camera includes an imaging sensor having a quantum efficiency (QE) of at least 15% for near-infrared (near-IR) light having a wavelength of 940 nm. The mirror assembly further includes first, second and third near-IR illumination sources disposed within the mirror head and operable to emit near-IR light that passes through the mirror transflector. The near-IR illumination sources are at respective angles relative to a planar front surface of the mirror reflective element and, when powered, illuminate respective in-cabin regions for a driver monitoring function or an occupant detection function.

    Abstract: An electro-optic mirror reflective element for a rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle includes a front substrate and a rear substrate with an electro-optic medium disposed therebetween. A display element is disposed at the front substrate and includes a transparent organic light emitting diode display. With the electro-optic mirror reflective element disposed at a rearview mirror assembly at the vehicle and when the display element is activated, information displayed by the display element is viewable by a driver of the vehicle. With the electro-optic mirror reflective element disposed at the rearview mirror assembly at the vehicle and when the display element is not activated, the driver views reflected images of the scene rearward of the vehicle as reflected off a specularly reflective mirror reflector disposed at a surface of the rear substrate.

    Abstract: An interior rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle includes a mirror head having a reflective element. A display device is disposed in the mirror head and behind the reflective element. The display device, when actuated, is viewable through the reflective element. The mirror head is adjustable between a mirror mode orientation, where the driver of the vehicle views rearward of the vehicle via the reflective element, and a display mode orientation, where the driver of the vehicle views images displayed by the display device through the reflective element. When in the display mode orientation, the reflective element is angled upward or downward relative to the orientation of the reflective element when in the mirror mode orientation. An actuator is pivotally mounted at the mirror head and includes a pivot element that adjustably mounts the mirror head at a mirror mount that attaches at the interior surface of the vehicle.

A mirror casing sidewall has a terminal end region that circumscribes an open end of the mirror casing and has a rounded end region surface. A first substrate of the reflective element has a rounded circumferential perimeter region extending at least partially between a front surface and a rear surface of the first substrate and having a first radius of curvature. The rounded surface of the mirror casing has a second radius of curvature. The substrate thickness of the first substrate is less than the first radius of curvature. The rounded surface of the mirror casing and the rounded circumferential perimeter region of the first substrate combine to provide a curved transition between the front surface and the outer surface of the mirror casing.

    Abstract: An interior rearview mirror assembly for a vehicle includes a mirror mount configured to attach at an interior portion of the vehicle. A mirror head includes a mirror casing and a mirror reflective element. The mirror mount includes a ball element and the mirror head includes a socket element, which pivotally attaches at the ball element forming a ball and socket joint to pivotally mount the mirror head at the mirror mount. The mirror head has a thickness dimension spanning between a front planar surface of said mirror reflective element and a rear surface of a laterally sideward region of the mirror casing, with the thickness dimension being less than 20 mm. A central region of the mirror casing has a thickness dimension greater than 20 mm to accommodate the socket element. The socket element is disposed at an aperture through the central region of the mirror casing.

    Abstract: A vehicular driver monitoring system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly that includes a mirror head accommodating a mirror reflective element. A megapixel camera is accommodated by the mirror head and includes a backside Illumination (BSI) imaging sensor having an at least 2.3 megapixel imaging array of photosensors. The BSI imaging sensor has a quantum efficiency of at least 22% for near-infrared light having a wavelength of 940 nm. A near-infrared illumination source is accommodated by the mirror head. The mirror reflective element and the megapixel camera and the near-infrared illumination source move in tandem with the mirror head when the mirror head is adjusted by a driver of a vehicle. The megapixel camera views at least the eyes of the driver of the vehicle. The near-infrared illumination source, when powered to emit near-infrared light, illuminates at least the eyes of the driver of the vehicle.
