    摘要: A kit comprises a tray with a well for a tourniquet, a dressing to use with a medical device inserted into a blood vessel. An antimicrobial treatment in the well disinfects an area of skin through which the medical device punctures the vessel. A pair of juxtaposed gloves with the finger ends, the hand parts and the cuff portions against one another are rolled up along their longitude from their fingers to their cuffs driving out air entrapped within the gloves. The process of rolling from the fingers to the cuffs leaves the cuffs of each glove at the periphery of the rolled generally cylindrical gloves for access to the inside of each when donning. A method for rolling gloves into a relatively cylindrical package, includes setting the gloves side by side with the finger ends, the hand parts, and the wrist or cuff portions juxtaposed. The finger portions are gathered into an axial bundle and rolled from the finger ends toward the palm or back hand parts driving out air within the gloves. Rolling along the elongate longitude of the gloves to the cuff or wrist portions, drives air from the cuffs and provides a cylindrical package. The method may include the added step of binding the rolled gloves with a band or tape. The compact package of gloves rolled up together along their longitude has binding about the middle to hold the rolled glove pair together so they are diametrically smaller than they are wide.

    摘要: A flash cavity is positioned between the inside of a translucent over the needle catheter and a needle for providing flash detection. The needle bore is connected to the cavity by an access port positioned near the location where the tip of the catheter sealably engages the needle. The needle bore is flow restricted between the access port and a hub for manipulating the needle. In one form of the introducer, a guide wire positioned by a syringe plunger carried for movement in a syringe barrel, is used to advance the catheter into the vessel. The syringe barrel restricts passage of liquid blood, but vents gases. In another arrangement of the introducer, a porous vent plug cooperates with the end of the needle and the catheter adapter to restrict blood flow through the needle bore and to prevent escape of blood while permitting escape of gases. A method of using the flash cavity for the early detection of blood provides for the proper placement in a blood vessel of the tip of the needle and catheter carried therewith wherein the needle has a restricted needle bore and a needle hub prevents escape of blood.

    摘要: There is disclosed an improved copper complex bactericide/fungicide and a method of making and using the same. The improved bactericide/fungicide is prepared by forming an aqueous solution of a partially neutralized, water-soluble polycarboxylic acid having a molecular weight of between approximately 1,000 and 300,000 and a pH of between approximately 3 and 9. To this aqueous solution is added a copper-containing compound which when combined with said aqueous solution releases copper (II) ions which will form a water-soluble complex with said partially neutralized polycarboxylic acid. The water-soluble copper complex is applied to plants to prevent or inhibit bacterial and fungal disease growth thereon.

    摘要: A needle and a cover with a needle having an elongate shank and a tip with a sharpened point. The cover is coaxially associated with the elongate shank for movement therealong toward the tip and includes a part for extending beyond the sharpened point when the cover is positioned near the tip. A lock associated with the needle and cover cooperates and holds the cover to prevent axially movement relative to the needle tip after positioning the cover near the tip. The needle and cover may be a part of a catheter assembly having a catheter and an adapter connected to one another for fluid communication and carried coaxially about the needle and hub. The catheter has a bore therethrough sized to surround the elongate shank for movement therewith during insertion and therealong during placement. A retaining means on the adapter and on the cover releasably attach the cover to the adapter while on the elongate shank of the needle allowing the needle and cover to be disengaged from the catheter and adapter after placement.

    摘要: A valved adapter for a medical access device includes a body with a longitudinal axis. The body has a proximal first end, a distal second end and a passageway therethrough which has an inside surface. The passageway has a chamber defined by a proximal shoulder and a segmented distal shoulder both projecting inwardly from the surface of the passageway. The chamber is located intermediate the first end and second end of the body. The adapter includes a valve contained within the chamber for selectively obstructing and allowing fluid flow through the passageway. The valve includes an elongate resilient member with an axis substantially coaxial to the longitudinal axis of the body having a proximal end and a distal end. The elongate resilient member is axially compressed between the distal shoulder and the proximal shoulder, the compression biasing the valve to a normally closed position. The proximal end of the resilient member forms a substantially fluid tight seal with the proximal shoulder which obstructs fluid flow through the passageway. The adapter further includes a pusher for selectively further axially compressing the resilient member so that the proximal end of the adapter no longer forms a fluid tight seal with the proximal shoulder thereby allowing fluid flow through the passageway. The adapter includes fittings for attaching the adapter to a medical access device and for attaching fluid delivery devices to the adapter.

    摘要: There is disclosed a granular copper hydroxide dry flowable bactericide/fungicide having improved biological activity and a method for making and using same. A bactericide/fungicide is made by forming a homogeneous aqueous slurry containing between approximately 5% and 20% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) of a first dispersant selected from the group consisting of partially neutralized polyacrylic acid having a pH of between approximately 5 and 10 and an average molecular weight of between approximately 1,000 and 10,000 and lignin sulfonate, between approximately 0% and 5% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) of a second dispersant for bentonite clay, between approximately 40% and 80% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) phosphate stabilized cupric hydroxide and between approximately 6% and 30% by weight (based on the total weight of all dry ingredients) bentonite clay; and spray drying the slurry to thereby form a dry free flowing granular bactericide/fungicide product. The slurry can also include antifoam and wetting agents. Other partially neutralized polycarboxylic acid polymers useful as the first dispersant are also disclosed.

    摘要: An over the needle catheter with adapter that has an integral valve in a passage. Distal and proximal parts form the adapter along an axis. The distal part communicates with a catheter. A hub conjugates with the proximal part and has a needle extending along the axis and through the passage when the hub is within the proximal part. A valve assembly has an elongate resilient member captured in the passage between the parts. A proximal portion of the valve assembly is engaged by a fitting to open the valve. A valve seat in the passage has a frusto-conical surface located coaxial about the axis and facing the distal part. The seat engages a chamfered surface on the elongate resilient member to seal and prevent flow and to allow flow when the seal is broken by axial compression of the elongate resilient member by the fitting. A septum like end across the elongate resilient member permits the needle to pass therethrough in a resealable fashion. The elongate resilient member has a diametrically reduced cylindrical body extending to the septum like end. The passage has an annular space about the reduced cylindrical body and terminates in a distal area. The distal area has flow channels which extend between the annular space and the distal part. A method has steps of locating the parts along an axis and capturing the elongate resilient member by engaging the axially aligned parts to force the elongate resilient member against a valve seat for sealing the passage and preventing flow. Placing a needle carried on a hub along the axis and through a septum like end of the elongate resilient member allows the needle to be withdrawn from the septum like end and to reseal the passage. Applying fastening means to secure the parts is a step.
