摘要: A method recognizes an object in an image. Gallery images include identified objects, and a probe image includes an unidentified object. The probe image is paired with each gallery image to generate pairs of images. First filters are applied to the probe image of each pair to obtain a first feature value for each application of each filter. Second filters are applied to the each gallery image of each pair to obtain a second feature value for each application of each filter. The feature values are summed for each application of each filter, and for each application, a score is set to an acceptance weight if the sum is greater than a predetermined threshold, and otherwise setting the score to a rejection weight. The scores are summed for all of the application, and the probe image is identified with any gallery image when the score is greater than zero.

摘要: A drafting instrument includes a plurality of transparent prism arrays, each array including a plurality of transparent prisms juxtaposed in parallel relation and fixed at a predetermined angular relation to a straightedge on top of which the bases of the prisms rest. The preferred predetermined angular relations are: 30.degree., 45.degree. and parallel, to the straightedge. When viewed through the prism arrays, portions of lines not perpendicular thereto, appear offset, providing a way to establish perpendicularity and specific alignment between line and straightedge by re-orientation of the drafting instrument. The straightedge is made substantially thicker than required for structural strength, to enhance the offset appearance of lines viewed through the prism and thus increase sensitivity of offset indication. The straightedge preferably has two edges on opposite sides and parallel with each other. In the preferred construction the prisms and straightedge are made as a unit and protected by a transparent cover.

摘要: A climate control unit is controlled by constructing background and foreground models of an environment from images acquired of the environment by a camera. The background model represents the environment when unoccupied, and there is one foreground model for each person in the environment. A 2D location of each person in the environment is determined using the background and foreground models. A 3D location of each person is determined using the 2D locations and inferences made from the images. The controlling of the climate control unit is according to the 3D locations.

摘要: A method for detecting an object in a depth image includes determining a detection window covering a region in the depth image, wherein a location of the detection window is based on a location of a candidate pixel in the depth image, wherein a size of the detection window is based on a depth value of the candidate pixel and a size of the object. A foreground region in the detection window is segmented based on the depth value of the candidate pixel and the size of the object. A feature vector is determined based on depth values of the pixels in the foreground region and the feature vector is classified to detect the object.

摘要: Disclosed is a computer implemented method and apparatus for establishing a redundant channel from an application to a peer data processing system. The interrupt-driven hot standby program receives, through the operation of a data processing system, a communication channel status corresponding to an application. The application has a first channel using local access across a first physical conduit to a first switch. In addition the communication channel status is, in part, an interrupt. The interrupt-driven hot standby program determines whether the redundant channel is present. The redundant channel is configured to use a second physical conduit distinct from the first physical conduit for traffic of the application. Responding to a determination that the redundant channel is present, the interrupt-driven hot standby program determines whether the redundant channel is configured to use the second physical conduit as local access to a redundant switch, wherein the redundant switch is not the first switch. The interrupt-driven hot standby program responds to a determination that the redundant channel is configured to use the second physical conduit by updating a communication channel list to include at least one attribute of the redundant channel, wherein the communication channel list is resident in the data processing system.

摘要: A method of, and apparatus for, printing information on a hardcopy medium includes the acceptance of data representing a first information and the acceptance of data representing a second information. Second information is printed in regions on the medium where first information data is not printed. Second information data is encoded into a grayscale or color data representation such that necessary or maximum data density is achieved. First information is printed using black (K) ink (or alternatively using a different color gamut than that used for printing the second information) such that first information can be filtered out in a straightforward manner upon scanning of the printed medium by a digital scanning apparatus, and second information can then be recovered and utilized to advantage.

摘要: A method detects an object, such a face, in an image. The image is first partitioned into patches of various sizes using either an integral image or a Gaussian pyramid. Features in each patch are evaluated to determine a cumulative score. The evaluating is repeated while the cumulative score is within a range of an acceptance threshold and a rejection threshold, and otherwise the image is rejected when the accumulated score is less than the rejection threshold and accepted as including the object when the cumulative score is greater than the acceptance threshold.

摘要: A pictorial tour process acquires material for producing pictorial tours from given amusement venues and then publishes those pictorial tours on an Internet website so the web users can get a “you are there” perspective of the given amusement venue. In particular as applied to the game of golf, a golf website presents pictorial tours of various golf courses by means of shot-by-shot teachings from a player's perspective of the recommended play of a given hole. Such a shot-by-shot teaching tour entertains, teaches as well as allows a web user to judge whether the given course is attractive or suitable to that user. The web users get to see not just the beauty and skill-challenge of the course, but also check such factors as whether the course will adversely challenge to their health if they have conditions of, eg., weak heart or impaired walking mobility, or otherwise cause discomfort because of eg., desert heat or mountain coolness, and so on. Some course allow carts, others don't. Thus a hilly course up on a cool plateau is not likely appealing to someone who might be stricken by such things. Accordingly, that sort of “someone” ought to forego the course even if the beauty and skill-challenge aspects are otherwise appealing.

摘要: Soil moisture sensor apparatus includes a housing 10 having an expansion chamber 13 and a piston 20 slidably mounted within the housing 10. Formed through the wall of the housing are electrical lead take-outs 15 through which pass cable tails 16. The piston 20 has a rebate 21 adapted to allow the piston 20 to pass partly by a protruding portion of a fixed contact 22 embedded in the wall of the housing at the upper take-out 15. Bearing on the lower surface of the piston 20 is a moving contact 24, the contact 24 being urged against the piston face by a spring 25 which also serves to bias the piston 20 towards the open end of the housing 10. Disposed across the expansion chamber 13 is a flexible membrane 26 retained in position by an end cap assembly including an annular end cap body member 27, an outer mesh screen portion 32 and a dirt excluding inner fabric portion 33. Contained in the space defined between the fabric portion 33 and the flexible membrane 26 is a water swellable polyacrylamide gel bead composition 34, the expansion and contraction of which moves the piston respectively against and with the bias of the spring to break and make the circuit.

摘要: A fastening arrangement for protective equipment comprised of relatively soft inner cushioning material and relatively rigid outer shell-like material. The fastening is comprised of a main strap which has a fixed end and free end. The fixed end is sewn in place to both inner and outer fabric surfaces of a cushion. The free end of the strap is threaded through a series of three slots and through an opening formed by a transverse strap. The circuitous path of the main strap prevents separation of the cushion from the shell. Hook-and-loop fastening surface areas on different portions of the main strap allow it to be completed with one hand.
