The display assembly comprises a liquid crystal display assembly comprising at least two display sections, driving means for providing driving signals to the respective display sections; and a controller, operatively coupled to the driving means, for signaling the driving means to provide the driving signals; wherein the display configuration of the wearable electronic device is changeable based on the dial assembly operatively coupled within the housing, wherein the first dial assembly provides for the viewability of at least the first display section and the second dial assembly provides for the viewability of at least the second display section. A method of customizing the display of a wearable electronic device is also provided. In a specific embodiment, the wearable electronic device is a wristwatch.

A switching mechanism is provided for a multimode electronic timepiece having a casing, a device for indicating a time-of-day and an integrated circuit operable in a plurality of modes. The switching mechanism includes a setting stem mounted for rotational movement and positionable in a plurality of axial setting positions. The setting stem includes at least one tooth. The switching mechanism also includes a switch arm having a first end, a second end and an intermediate portion. The intermediate portion engages the tooth of the setting stem. The switching mechanism further includes a first and a second electrical contact. When the setting stem is in at least one of the axial setting positions and while the timepiece is operating in at least two of the modes, the intermediate portion cooperates with the tooth to intermittently form, in response to a rotation of the setting stem, an electrical connection between the second end and, when the setting stem is rotating in a first direction, the first electrical contact to produce an intermittent first electrical pulse. Alternatively, when the setting stem is rotating in a second direction, an electrical connection is intermittently formed between the second end and the second electrical contact to produce an intermittent second electrical pulse. In one embodiment, the intermittent first and second electrical signals are inputs to setting functions performed within at least one of the modes of the timepiece.

The input/output circuit board includes other terminals for driving connection to the stepping motor, and for oscillator, switching, etc.

The invention relates to an electric watch, wherein the rotor of a stepping motor is arranged between the metal frame and the plastic frame and is mounted in bearing holes of these frames or base plates. In accordance with the invention, the plastic frame has adjacent to the bearing hole of the rotor a partially cylindrical web extending substantially perpendicular to the metal frame and penetrating the air gap between the rotor and the stator of the stepping motor, while the stator with the associated coil is mounted on the outer side of the plastic frame. This construction enables assembly of the rotor without the effects of disturbing magnetic interaction between rotor and stator tending to dislocate the rotor.

A method of calibrating a display hand in an electronic device. The preferred method comprises the steps of initializing a counter; stepping the rotor of the stepping motor a predetermined number of steps in a first direction and incrementing the counter; determining whether the counter is less than a predefined value representing at least the total of (i) the maximum number of steps needed from a zero position on the display to the maximum value on the display; and (ii) the number of steps needed from the zero position on the display to the position such that a channel formed in one of the one or more gears would abut against a tab; and if so, stepping the rotor of the stepping motor the predetermined number of steps in the first direction, incrementing the counter and again determining whether the counter is less than the predefined value; and if not, rotating the rotor of the motor in a direction opposite the first direction the same number of steps needed from the zero position on the display to the position such that the channel would abut against the tab. Several calibration assembly constructions are also provided.

In the preferred embodiment, the first internal field is generated by a rotor of a stepping motor being in a first orientation, and the at least second internal field is generated by the rotor of the stepping motor being in a second orientation, wherein the method includes the steps of determining whether the rotor is in the first orientation before measuring the external field; and if not, causing the rotor to rotate into the first orientation prior to measuring the external field.
