    Abstract: An audio system and method is described to monitor whether the audio processing performed on an audio signal is corrupted. The audio system includes module to embed a watermark into an audio signal, and a verification module to verify the presence of the watermark after the audio processing has been performed. The embedding strength of the watermark can be adjusted on the basis of whether the presence of the watermark is detected. The embedding strength for the watermark may be adjusted such that it is as low as possible while still allowing detection, thus keeping the audio quality as high as possible.

    Abstract: There is disclosed an audio playback system including a loudspeaker, a microphone and a means for implementing a method of detecting a fault which includes the generation and analysis of a specific ultrasound reference signal. The presence of the ultrasound reference signal can be detected on the microphone signal, and the signal-to-noise ratio can be estimated during the reference signal playback so that the volume of the reference signal can be adapted if necessary. The reference signal is a multi-sinusoidal signal which, when averaged over time increases the expected signal-to-noise ratio, and hence, the power of the detector.

    Abstract: A load detector for an audio system comprising a closed-loop amplifier is described. The load detector includes a noise detector configured to be coupled to the output of the closed-loop amplifier. The noise detector detects a noise signal at least partially generated by the amplifier. The generated noise signal comprises frequencies outside the audible frequency range due to the noise shaping of the amplifier. The load detector further includes a parameter calculation module having an input coupled to the output of the noise detector and an output. The parameter calculation module is configured to determine a parameter value relating to an impedance of the amplifier output load from the detected noise signal and to output a load detection signal dependent on the determined parameter value. The load detector may detect the presence of a load such as a tweeter without generating a reference signal.
