摘要： An image forming apparatus and method includes a sheet accommodating device, a feeder, an image former, a sheet conveying path, and a controller. The sheet accommodating device accommodates a stack of sheets. The sheet accommodating device is movable in a direction crossing with the feeding direction for the sheets. The feeder feeds one-by-one the sheets from the sheet accommodating device. The image former forms an image on a sheet sent from the sheet accommodating device by the feeder. The sheet conveying path has a sufficient length to retain the sheet from the sheet accommodating device between the feeder and the image former so that a trailing edge of the sheet is downstream of the feeder. The controller pre-feeds the sheet to the sheet conveying path from the sheet accommodating device prior to the generation of a sheet feeding signal.

摘要： An original handling apparatus is provided with a conveyor, a setting circuit and a control system. The conveyor conveys an original in plural modes in which an original is scanned. The conveyor is operated in a first convey mode in which an original is fed to and stopped at a first position on a platen. After the scan is completed, the scanned original is fed to and stopped at a second position on the platen, and a next original is fed to and stopped at the first position on the platen. In the second convey mode, the original is fed to and stopped at the first position on the platen, and after scan is completed, the original is discharged from the first position. A next original is then fed to and stopped at the first position on the platen. The setting circuit sets either the first or second convey modes. The setting circuit enables the first convey mode to be set in a single-side mode wherein only one side of the original is scanned, and prohibits the first convey mode from being set in a dual-side mode wherein both sides of an original are scanned. A controller controls the conveyor to be operated in either the first or second convey mode in accordance with a setting signal from the setting circuit.

摘要： There is provided an image forming system that are capable of preventing a user or operator from forgetting to carry out a maintenance operation based on required sub-maintenance items after execution of a maintenance operation based on an associated maintenance item, such as component replacement, cleaning, or adjustment. A table of maintenance items and sub-maintenance items associated with respective ones of the maintenance items is stored in a ROM. When a CPU determines that a maintenance operation based on a selected one of the maintenance items has been completed, the CPU determines whether or not there is any sub-maintenance item associated with the selected maintenance item, by referring to the table. When it is determined that there is one or more sub-maintenance items associated with the selected maintenance item, a CPU provides control to display the sub-maintenance item or items in an operating/display unit.
