    摘要: A method and apparatus for wrapping the top and sides of a load. A web dispenser dispenses and stretches web on the direction in which it is dispensed. The load is rotated relative to the web dispenser as web is wrapped onto the load. The web dispenser is positioned in an orientation generally parallel to the sides of the load for wrapping the sides of the load, and is changed to an orientation generally parallel to the top of the load for covering the top of the load. A web supply may change orientation along with the web dispenser or may be fixed relative to the web dispenser in an orientation generally parallel to the sides of the load. When the web supply is fixed, an accumulator is provided for accumulating web. The accumulator dispenses web when the web dispenser is changing orientation and when the web dispenser is in the orientation generally parallel to the top of the load. The web supply does not provide web when the web dispenser is changing orientation or when the web dispenser is in the orientation generally parallel to the top of the load.

    摘要: The invention comprises a novel apparatus for making unitary completely wrapped packages. In the apparatus, a series of loads are fed into a wrapping apparatus onto a wrapping conveyor assembly comprised of a plurality of conveyors. The film is continuously wrapped around the load and the conveyor assembly to form a spiral bundle with the load being carried off by the top portion of one conveyor and the wrap being carried off the bottom portion of another conveyor so that the load and wrap are carried off at the same speed onto a take-off conveyor. The spiral stretched film web is sealed and severed between adjacent loads by a cutting and sealing apparatus to form a six sided compressive wrap around each load.

    摘要: An apparatus for wrapping a plurality of loads into a wrapped package comprising a conveyor adapted to receive a plurality of loads and a film dispensing apparatus. This film dispensing apparatus comprises a frame, a ring member rotatably mounted on the frame, a film roll support and brake member mounted on the ring member. A guide wrapping rail is aligned with the conveyor to receive and carry loads transported by the conveyor and is so positioned that one end passes through the ring member. A material handling assembly having two clamp mechanisms, is positioned adjacent the dispenser apparatus. One of the clamp mechanisms is adapted to alternately hold the leading edge of a roll of stretchable material carried by the ring member film roll support in a fixed position while the other clamp mechanism holds the trailing edge of the stretchable material to form the package wrap. Each clamp mechanism comprises two opposing bar members and a cutting blade secured to one bar member with its cutting edge being positioned between the two bar members for severing the web of the last wrap of overwrap material placed around the load. A drive wheel engages the ring member to alternately rotate the ring member in alternate opposite directions so that it dispenses material around the guide rail, the clamp mechanisms, and the load currently being carried by the guide rail with the brake member stretching the material as it is being placed around the load.

    摘要: A system for transporting ice pieces or the like from a primary bin to one or more satellite bins is disclosed. A dispenser forms a charge of ice pieces in a precharge chamber, which is then transferred by air assist to a delivery tube. A driver member is provided to engage and move the substantially defined charge of ice pieces to the selected satellite bin. The driver member is propelled by a differential pressure within the tube. This permits the defined charge to be exposed only to the low pressure side and insulated from the high pressure propelling medium to minimize breakage and melting during delivery. Before reaching the satellite bin, the piston is reversed to shuttle back to the home position. The satellite bins are connected in series and delivery of a charge to an intermediate bin is provided by moving a tube section out of alignment with the delivery tube. Lubrication and continuous cleaning is performed by the driver member sweeping minimal residual water from melting ice. A full, two phase cleaning cycle is also provided by injecting cleaning fluid/rinse water into the tube for delivery by the piston. Single or dual fans are used to provide the differential pressure. A controller coordinates the system operation and allows monitoring and adjustment of all parameters.

    摘要: A method and apparatus is provided for severing packaging material which extends between successive wrapped loads during a continuous wrapping process. Wrapped loads are conveyed along a load path in a conveying direction. A severing bar which extends lateral to the conveying direction includes a heating element which is connected to a power source by an electrical conductor. A sprocket and chain drive is used to transport the severing bar along a closed path having first and second segments. The first segments generally extends lateral to the extent of the severing bar and has a component in the conveying direction. During the first segment of transport, severing bar is transported across the load path between and along with a first pair of successive loads. The second segment of the closed path generally extends lateral to the extent of the severing bar as a component in the conveying direction. During transport over the second segment, the severing bar is transported back across the load path between and along with the second pair of successive loads. A fixed support frame is used to support the chain and sprocket drive. A guide frame, guide follower and rotary bearing are used to prevent rotation between the severing bar and the fixed support frame and to prevent twisting of the electrical conductor during repeated transport of the severing bar around the closed path.

    摘要: A rotatable film wrapping apparatus for wrapping a load on a conveyor with an overwrap of stretched plastic film web, having a film web pre-stretching mechanism which is provided with a constant torque by a power assistance mechanism. The power assistance mechanism comprises a stationary ring adjacent a rotary ring on which the film roll and pre-stretch mechanism are mounted, and a friction roller on the rotary ring which contacts the stationary ring to transfer rotational energy to the pre-stretch device as the rotary ring rotates. The pre-stretch mechanism comprises a downstream roller across which the film is drawn to the load at a speed which varies, and an upstream roller linked by gears to the downstream roller so that the upstream roller rotates at a fixed fraction of the speed of the downstream roller to stretch film between the rollers. The energy of the friction roller is transferred through an adjustable constant torque device to the pre-stretch mechanism without controlling the speed of the pre-stretch mechanism, and since a constant torque is added to the pre-stretch mechanism, the force on the film to the load can be substantially reduced while allowing the pre-stretch drive to speed up and slow down according to the film demand from corners or changing load size. This permits higher levels of stretch, faster payout speeds, and use of less uniform film than were thought possible previously. Relatively centered loads with minimum corner protrusion may be wrapped without the constant torque device by a proper selection of gears such that the downstream roller surface speed is driven slightly below the average relative surface speed of the load.

    摘要: A process and apparatus for pre-stretching a plastic film material above its yield point in a roller assembly comprising at least two rollers connected for rotation at different speeds during a load wrapping operation. The downstream roller is at least partially driven by the film web connected to a turntable while the upstream roller rotates at a predetermined speed slower than that of the downstream roller to induce film elongation between the rollers. The force on the film between the roller assembly and the load is reduced by a powered constant torque device connected to the rollers to bring the force to the load down to a level permitting the film elongation between the roller assembly and the load to be equal to (balanced) or less than the elongation incurred between the rollers. The force from the torque device required to bring elongation on the load in balance with the elongation between the rollers will be equal to the difference between the force required to elongate the film between closely spaced rollers and the force required to hold the elongation after the film leaves the rollers corrected for the mechanical advantage and friction of the pre-stretch device. Since the film has been stretched above its yield point, the relieving of stress from the film between the rollers and the load allows the film to retain a high degree of pre-stretch elongation.
