Abstract:
An electrical power transmission line includes an electrical conductor including a plurality of interconnected individual current conducting sections and a conducting section connector disposed between the conducting sections. At least a portion of the section connectors include at least one retunable inductance connected in series between respective conducting sections. Random variation of the retunable inductors results in averaging at least one of the first, second and third directional derivatives of vector potential of electromagnetic waves traveling in the adjacent conducting sections, thereby becoming undefined.
Abstract:
Methods for determining the temperature of at least one component associated with an internal combustion engine in a vehicle are disclosed comprising detecting the value of a predetermined variable associated with an operating condition of the engine, the variable including the rotational speed and load of the engine, and deriving the temperature of the component based upon the value of the predetermined variable derived from the inherent thermal inertia associated with that component. Apparatus for determining the temperature of the component is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A tool store device comprises a stnad having a base and a support frame on which is supported a tool carrier. The tool carrier is constructed as a semi-spherical shell which is rotatable about a horizontal axis and carries tools which are densely arranged thereon with their longitudinal axes extending at right angles to the store surface. On the inside of the tool carrier there is positioned an advance unit having a displacement unit and a gripper which are rotatably mounted in the support frame about a vertical axis passing through the center (M) of the imaginary ball of which the semi-spherical shell of the tool carrier is the part. The advance unit cooperates with a tool changer, which has a swivel arm swivellable about the horizontal axis. A tool double gripper is fixed to the arm. The advance unit can advance a tool at a random point of the tool carrier to a transfer station, where it can be taken over by the double tool gripper. The swivel arm brings the double gripper at the transfer station into the vicinity of a work spindle of a machine tool, where the tool is inserted into the spindle from the tool double gripper. The tool is taken back from the work spindle in the reverse order by the tool gripper, which transfers the tool to the advance unit at the transfer station of the tool store device.
Abstract:
A tool rack includes a rotor mounted in a rotary manner on a column and carrying on its circumference tool magazines in a tight, uninterrupted arrangement over the entire circumference thereof, so that there is no possibility of access for a tool interchanger to the individual tools. A displacement unit with displacement arms positioned above and below the rotor is used for the access to a tool. The displacement arms have magazine grippers which grip a desired, displayed magazine, and advance it over the length of the tools of the adjacent tool holders. By means of the tool interchanger it is now possible to grip the desired tool and bring it to a use point. The rotor thus can be provided with a maximum number of tools, but still permits a very rapid tool exchange, which is particularly advantageous in the case of single-spindle working machines.
Abstract:
A textile machine is provided with a movable transport conveyor having Casablanca pins which convey packages on bobbins and a support member located in the path of movement of the bobbins for release of the bobbins from the pins. The support member serves to push the bobbins relative to the pins in order to effect a release of the bobbins from the pins. In addition, the support member cooperates with a transport conveyor which permits the released packages to be taken off to further processing equipment.
Abstract:
The present invention is concerned with threading-in textile materials, such as a yarn, a roving or similar textile or filamentary material, into an enclosed duct or the like. The threading-in of the textile material is accomplished by manually operating a manual apparatus which functions as a pump. In this way there can be avoided the use of expensive and complicated devices presently provided for threading-in textile materials as is known. The invention is astonishingly simple, the manual apparatus is easy and convenient to use, readily transportable and its cost is exceedingly modest.
Abstract:
Novel 85Rb-enriched rubidium salt compounds of general formula 1, below and novel compounds of general formula 2, below. Compositions that contain at least one of the novel compounds and optionally further contain an antitumor drug. Methods that entail administering such compounds and compositions to treat cancer, optionally in combination with a conventional form of cancer therapy, such as chemotherapy and radiation treatment. When administered with a conventional form of cancer therapy, the compounds and compositions of the invention may be administered before, simultaneously with, or after administration of the conventional form of cancer therapy.
Abstract:
A method for transporting articles (2) to a station, in particular preforms to a blow-molding apparatus, wherein each article has a protrusion (10) and is moved along a guide (16) by a drive means (18), the article (2), along at least part of the guide (16), should be retained on an abutment (19, 21, 23), and advanced along this abutment, by an air stream.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for transferring hollow cylindrical objects from a supply unit to a removal unit by providing a transport unit for transferring hollow cylindrical objects between a supply unit and a removal unit, providing at least holding element in the transport unit, positioning the hollow cylindrical object in contact with the at least one holding element at the supply unit wherein the hollow cylindrical object is held by the holding element, moving the transport unit with the hollow cylindrical object from the supply unit to the removal unit, and removing the hollow cylindrical element from the at least one holding element at the removal unit.
Abstract:
An electrode, e.g. a negative electrode, for a lithium-ion battery cell is made from a carbonaceous material, such as a carbon paper, which is lithiated by direct contact with a piece of lithium metal in an atmosphere comprising carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. A method of making the electrode comprises the step of contacting tightly the carbonaceous material with the piece of lithium metal in the atmosphere. The method further comprises the step of storing the carbonaceous material and the piece of lithium metal in the atmosphere, and optionally, in an electrolyte, for a period of time sufficient to completely lithiate the carbonaceous material. A lithium-ion battery cell comprises the negative electrode, a positive electrode comprising oxides of a transition metal, and a non-aqueous electrolyte.
