Abstract: A water injection system for spraying water toward an intake system of an engine is disclosed. The water injection system includes a water collection circuit that has a water collection pipe for collecting water from the intake system and a drain valve installed on the water collection pipe. The water collection circuit collects water from the intake system of the engine by opening the drain valve when amount of stagnant water in the intake system reaches a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for assessing the quality of water in a water injection system using existing engine sensors. A change in manifold charge temperature following a water injection may be compared to a change in intake oxygen level to determine an error between an amount of water delivered to the engine and an amount of water actually used in the engine. The error may be correlated with the water quality and used for correcting subsequent water injection commands.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for controlling an electric pump for furnishing water for injection into a combustion chamber of an engine are provided. The electric pump is connected to an inflow of a main water tank and has a high-pressure output at which the electric pump makes available water at a pressure elevated with respect to a pressure in the main water tank. The high-pressure output of the electric pump is connected to a return line that opens into a driving jet connector of a suction jet pump, a suction jet connector of the suction jet pump being connected to a further water tank, and a high-pressure output of the suction jet pump being connected to the main water tank.

Abstract: The present invention provides systems, methods and apparatus to overcome limitations of liquid fuel engine combustion. Liquid fuel is mixed with superheated water which vaporizes, mixes with air and ignites within the injector nozzle. The injector nozzles then accelerate the mixture into the engine combustion chamber where unburned fuel vapor mixes and burns. Combustion begins the instant of injection and increases uniformly. Combustion pressure builds progressively. Combustion of fuel vapor is more ideal, and better controlled. As part of the system and apparatus, the present disclosure also includes a low-cost high-speed solenoid valve which produces shorter injection pulses. It also includes a high-speed, high-air-volume solenoid fuel valve. In addition, the present invention and its disclosure create tools to develop and optimize this new method of fuel vapor injection.

A control piston may be mounted movably on the injection nozzle, is displaceable in a translatory manner along the longitudinal axis of the injection nozzle between an inoperative position and a working position, and closes at least one fluid connection in the inoperative position and opens up same in the working position in order to introduce water into the associated cylinder.

Abstract: An internal combustion engine is equipped with a water injector for cooling the internal combustion engine by a spray of atomized water into the intake track or combustion chamber prior to ignition. The atomized water spray may be in the intake manifold or directly in the cylinder. The water is injected at a volume of between a ratio of about 95% fuel to about 5% water and about 50% fuel and about 50% water. The temperature of the internal combustion engine is maintained at between about 95° C. and about 200° C. during operation.

Abstract: Methods are provided for controlling an engine. One method may include boosting engine intake air to a cylinder; and injecting an amount of a scavenging fluid into the cylinder based on an amount of cylinder residual exhaust gas. A scavenging fluid, such as water or windshield washer fluid evaporates on contact with the hot exhaust gases and hot metal components and the expanded volume of the vapor displaces the residual exhaust gas, thereby improving engine scavenging.
