Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, or apparatuses that support a 20 MHz station (STA) parked on a secondary channel. Without the described techniques, mechanisms to support secondary channel operation may be unable to receive management frames or broadcast traffic from an access point (AP), which may cause the STA to lose synchronization with the AP, miss a channel change or other critical announcement from the AP, etc. Considerations for providing such information to STAs parked on a secondary channel are discussed. In some examples, an AP may restrict resource unit allocation to the secondary channel on which the STA is parked. In some cases, a trigger-based random access mechanism may utilize aspects of the present disclosure to limit access to certain resource units to STAs on a given secondary channel.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating a secure long training field (LTF). In some implementations, the secure LTF may include a randomized bit sequence that is difficult, if not impossible, to replicate by any device other than the transmitting device and the intended receiving device. For example, the transmitting device may use a block cipher or stream cipher to generate a pseudorandom bit sequence and may select a subset of bits of the pseudorandom bit sequence to be mapped to a sequence of modulation symbols representing an LTF symbol of the secure LTF. More specifically, each of the modulation symbols is mapped to a respective one of a number of subcarriers spanning a bandwidth of the secure LTF. The transmitting device may further transmit a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF to the receiving device.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communication, and particularly, methods, devices and systems for including signaling regarding enhanced features of new wireless communication protocols. The signaling may be included in various portions of a physical layer preamble of a wireless transmission. In some implementations, the physical layer preamble may be used to indicate puncturing of subbands or content channels that may carry further signaling in accordance with preamble signaling designs of this disclosure. The physical layer preamble signaling be parallelized for different subchannels of a wireless channel that consists of multiple subchannels. Some implementations of the physical layer preambles may be used to multiplex different types of wireless local area network communications into different subsets of the plurality of subchannels of the wireless channel.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing carrier frequencies for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs and numerologies that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may up-clock a physical layer (PHY) convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) for transmission on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz, where the PPDU conforms to an existing PPDU format associated with carrier frequencies below 7 GHz. As used herein, the term “up-clocking” refers to increasing the frequency of a clock signal used to convert the PPDU between the frequency domain and the time domain. In some aspects, the up-clocking may result in a subcarrier spacing (SCS) greater than or equal to 1.2 MHz, where the SCS represents a spacing between the subcarriers on which a PHY preamble of the PPDU is modulated.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing carrier frequencies for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Some implementations more specifically relate to BSS discovery and association techniques that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, an access point (AP) may communicate using beamforming on a wireless communication link operating at a carrier frequency above 7 GHz (the “directional link”) while offloading the BSS discovery and association procedures needed to support such communications onto a wireless communication link operating at a carrier frequency below 7 GHz (the “anchor link”). In some implementations, the AP may perform a beamforming training operation with a STA over the directional link upon associating with the STA over the anchor link. In such implementations, the AP may communicate with the STA over the directional link using a beam derived from the beamforming training operation.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for clear channel assessment (CCA). In one aspect a device performs a first clear channel assessment (CCA) check on a primary subchannel of a channel having a total bandwidth greater than or equal to 40 megahertz (MHz), a plurality of subchannels of the channel collectively spanning the total bandwidth of the channel, the plurality of subchannels including the primary subchannel and one or more secondary subchannels, the primary subchannel and the one or more secondary subchannels each having a bandwidth of 20 MHz, performs, on each of the one or more secondary subchannels, a respective second CCA check, and transmits a communication on the channel based on a status of each of the primary subchannel and the one or more secondary subchannels that is based on the performance of the respective second CCA check or the first CCA check.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing the transmit power of wireless communication devices operating on power spectral density (PSD)-limited wireless channels. Some implementations more specifically relate to LTF designs that support distributed transmissions. In some aspects, a transmitting device may obtain a sequence of values representing an LTF of a PPDU and may map the sequence of values to a number (N) of noncontiguous subcarrier indices of a plurality of subcarrier indices spanning a wireless channel according to a distributed tone plan. In some implementations, the transmitting device may modulate the sequence of values on N tones, representing a logical RU, and map the N tones to the N noncontiguous subcarrier indices, respectively. In some other implementations, the sequence of values may be obtained based on relative locations of the N noncontiguous subcarrier indices in the wireless channel.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for wireless communication that can be used for channel puncturing. A wireless station (STA) may receive an indication of a first puncturing pattern to be used for transmitting or receiving data over a wireless channel, where the first puncturing pattern is defined by a first wireless communication protocol release and the STA is configured to operate according to a second wireless communication protocol release. The STA may select, from a set of puncturing patterns defined by the second wireless communication protocol release, a second puncturing pattern that includes one or more non-punctured subchannels that are subsets of one or more corresponding non-punctured subchannels of the first puncturing pattern. The STA may use the second puncturing pattern to transmit or receive one or more packets over the wireless channel.

Some implementations more specifically relate to physical layer (PHY) convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) designs that support distributed transmission. In such implementations, a portion of the PPDU may be modulated on a number (M) of tones representing a logical RU, and the M tones may be further mapped to M noncontiguous subcarrier indices in accordance with a distributed tone plan. In some other implementations, a PPDU may be generated based on a distributed tone plan. In such implementations, a portion of the PPDU may be modulated on a number (M) of tones coinciding with M noncontiguous subcarrier indices in accordance with the distributed tone plan.
