Reproducible texturing of magnetic recording media is enhanced by sputtering a buffer layer, such as Ni—P, on a nonmagnetic substrate, prior to sputtering a textured bump layer. A magnetic recording medium comprising a sputter textured metal layer and high coercivity is achieved by employing an underlayer, such as NiAl or FeAl, preferably a composite underlayer containing a chromium or chromium-alloy layer and a NiAl layer, on the sputter textured layer. Advantageously, the buffer layer, underlayer, textured bump layer, magnetic layer and carbon overcoat can be sputter deposited in a single apparatus.

A structure of a film filter includes a plurality of film layers made of a film stack material and a substrate wafer which said film layers are deposited on at a temperature substantially higher than a room temperature and retained to after being cooled to the room temperature. The substrate wafer has a coefficient of thermal expansion greater than that of the film stack material so as to generate compressive forces upon the associated film layers, thus resulting in the film filter having a negative temperature drift coefficient.

The present invention discloses a mold and a method of manufacturing the mold. The mold includes a mold matrix and a number of boron nitride nanotubes sintered together with the mold matrix. Each boron nitride nanotube capsules a number of fullerenes therein respectively. The mold further includes an amount of noble metal powder sintered together with the mold matrix and the boron nitride nanotubes. The fullerenes preferably include C60 molecules. In addition, the method for manufacturing a mold includes the steps of: providing a number of boron nitride nanotubes, each boron nitride nanotube capsuling a number of fullerenes therein respectively; mixing a mold matrix with the boron nitride nanotubes capsuling the fullerenes to form a complex; molding the complex to form a mold preform; and sintering the mold preform, thereby attaining a mold.

A hybrid lens (10) includes a plastic lens (12) and a glass coating film (14). The plastic lens is manufactured by injection molding. The glass coating film is formed on an outer surface of the plastic lens and encloses the outer surface of the plastic lens. The coating film comprises a single layer of glass material or a plurality of layers of glass material. The glass coating film is deposited on the outer surface of the plastic lens by vacuum deposition. The hybrid lens reduces chromatic aberration and provides improved image quality for an imaging system. A method for making the hybrid lens is also provided.
