A lock stitch sewing machine is provided with mechanism controllable by a servo motor for pulling thread from a bobbin, and including a selectively positionable member operably connected with a feed dog and bobbin thread engageable means for causing thread to be pulled from the bobbin by the thread engageable means during downward motion of the feed dog in amounts determined by the position of the selectively positionable member.

Work feeding mechanism and a rotatable loop taker are provided for a sewing machine in a module wherein a rock shaft connects with a feed bar through a flat spring enabling a feed dog on the feed bar to be moved by camming means in a direction perpendicular to the work feeding direction as the feed dog is moved in the work feeding direction by the action of the rock shaft. The camming means which is disposed under the feed bar is located in line with the feed dog to minimize inertia effects and guiding means associated with the feed bar maintain the feed dog level as the feed dog is moved in the work feeding direction and perpendicular to it.
Abstract:
A platform for mounting a sewing machine in a cabinet is disclosed which is pivotally mounted to the cabinet thereby allowing the sewing machine to be stored within the cabinet without being removed from the platform. This platform is intended for cylinder bed or convertible bed sewing machines in that it is also capable of raising and lowering the sewing machine, between a position where the work supporting surface of the sewing machine is coplanar with the cabinet top and a position where the work supporting surface is spaced above the cabinet top, without an accompanying horizontal shifting component. This enables the cabinet to be formed with a smaller sewing machine opening minimizing any gaps between the cabinet and the sewing machine and eliminating additional inserts needed to close these gaps.

A needle looper assembly for a lockstitch sewing machine wherein the upper thread is retrieved by a sewing needle extending through a work material, which sewing needle has an extensible hook portion for catching an upper thread and drawing the same down through the work material to a looptaker in the bed of the sewing machine. The needle looper assembly is supported on the end of a lever pivotally carried in the sewing machine bed to extend transversely thereof. The lever has the needle looper assembly attached to one end thereof, and may be actuated by a cam so as to drive the needle looper assembly to an elevated thread catching position or to a retracted thread releasing position. Retaining means are provided associated with the needle looper to permit an upper thread to be caught and held during passage through a work material and to be released when in a retracted position adjacent the looptaker.

The device will pull off a varying amount of bobbin thread to correspond to that which is required for each particular bight position of the stitch being set.

The device includes a pair of parallel elongate members, and a length of easily compressible resilient material which is carried by one of the members and compressed against the other member. Needle thread extending between the resilient material and said other member is subjected to frictional resistance by the resilient material during movement in the device.

A thread handling device is disclosed in a type 301 lockstitch rotary hook loop taker sewing machine having a three-to-one hook to arm shaft ratio for controlling and metering slack needle thread prior to needle penetration to prevent the thread from wrapping around the point of the needle, which could prevent loop seizure, break the thread, or interfere with correct stitch formation. The thread is guided between two stationary members, with the controller between the members, the controller comprising an edge attached to the needle bar drive connecting link, moving with it, and only engaging the thread as the take-up and needle bar descend, providing a lengthened thread path prior to needle penetration.
