Abstract:
Apparatus and method for communicating control data indicative of the capability of RF receiver equipment in wireless telecommunications devices. The control data is then used to allocate transmission resources to the telecommunications devices (including MTC-type terminals). Where a virtual carrier is established to carry data for a given MTC-type device, the position of the centre frequency for that virtual carrier is assigned on the basis of both the capability of the RF receiver equipment of that terminal and the degree of traffic congestion on the frequency band at which the virtual carrier has been established.

A communications terminal includes a transmitter configured to transmit signals via a wireless access interface to infrastructure equipment and to one or more of other communications terminals with a device-to-device communications protocol, a receiver configured to receive signals via the wireless access interface from the infrastructure equipment and from one or more of the other communications terminals with a device-to-device communications protocol, and a controller configured to control the transmitter and receiver to transmit and to receive data via the wireless access interface when in a connected mode and to select one of the one or more infrastructure equipment from which to receive paging messages for down-link communications when in an idle mode. The controller can enter a DRX-connected mode to control the receiver to only monitor a communications terminal acting as a relay node to determine whether the receiver can no longer receive paging messages from that communications terminal.
Abstract:
A method of reducing congestion in a mobile telecommunications system, the system comprising a plurality of mobile terminals, one or more relay nodes and a base station, the mobile terminals, relay nodes and base station being configured to communicate via a wireless interface. The method comprises determining first path information indicating one or more paths for transmitting data from the plurality of mobile terminals to the base station, wherein a path comprises a series of one or more edges, the series of edges being from one or more mobile terminals to the base station, directly or via one or more relay nodes; estimating, based on the first path information, a congestion likelihood for a first relay node to cause congestion for data transmission in the system; and if the estimated congestion likelihood for the first relay node is above a first threshold, determining second path information so as to reduce the congestion likelihood for the first relay node.

A communications device transmits and receives data via a wireless access interface in a mobile communications network. First resource allocation messages are received by communications devices to allocate one or more of plural communications resource elements of a host frequency range of a host carrier. Second resource allocation messages are received by reduced capability devices to allocate one or more of a first section of the communications resources within the first frequency range for preferable allocation to the reduced capability devices of a first virtual carrier, the first resource allocation messages identifying one or more of the communications resource of the host carrier allocated to the communications devices with reference to a first reference frequency and the second resource allocation messages identifying one or more communications resources of the first virtual carrier allocated to the reduced capability devices with reference to a second reference frequency within the first virtual carrier.

The method includes: sending, by the base station and to a mobile node, measurement instructions including a list identifying one or more relay nodes for measuring link quality, wherein the mobile node is one of the at least one terminal and the one or more relay nodes; and receiving, at the base station and from the mobile node, a list of one or more link measurements, wherein a link measurement measures a link quality for a link between the mobile node and one of the relay nodes identified in the list sent by the base station.
Abstract:
A communications system communicating data to/from a communications terminal includes plural wireless communications networks to transmit/receive signals to/from the communications terminal via wireless access interfaces. The communications terminal receives from an access server selection information for selecting one of the wireless communications networks, for transmitting or receiving the data in accordance with the selection information in combination with one or more determined measurements of the wireless access interface of the wireless communications networks. The access server includes an indication of a preferred communications characteristic for transmitting or receiving the signals representing the data, and in accordance with the preferred communications characteristic the communications terminal adapts the determined measurements and selects one of the wireless communications networks which most closely satisfy the preferred communications characteristic in accordance with the adapted-determined measurements.
Abstract:
A communications system communicating data to/from a communications terminal includes infrastructure equipment forming a mobile communications network to transmit/receive data to/from the communications terminal via a wireless access interface, the communications terminal configured to transmit/receive data to/from the infrastructure equipment. The communications terminal can receive transmission data to the infrastructure equipment at a buffer, transmit a resource request message requesting resources of the wireless access interface to the infrastructure equipment in response to receiving the data for transmission to the infrastructure equipment, and receive a resource allocation message from the infrastructure equipment. The resource allocation message allocates resources of the wireless access interface to the communications terminal. A characteristic of the resource request message transmitted by the communications terminal to the infrastructure equipment provides an indication of one of a predetermined set of transmission priority levels for transmitting the buffered data to the infrastructure equipment.
