摘要: Each of a pair of vertically and horizontally adjacent hoistways has an elevator car coupler roped through a traction machine to a counterweight so as to be able to raise and lower the elevator car within the related hoistway. A transition section joins the upper end of the lower hoistway with the lower end of the upper hoistway. A pair of guide rails are disposed on each side of the elevator system, including the upper hoistway, the transition section and the lower hoistway. Elevator cars are guided from the top of the upper hoistway to the bottom of the lower hoistway and/or vice versa by one of the pairs of rails. Power in the transition section is provided by a pair of LEMs, one on each side of the hoistways.

摘要: A linear motor is used to actuate an elevator door in response to a control signal for counteracting rotational torque caused by a variable-length moment arm about the center of gravity of the door by varying the magnitude of a linear force exerted on the door acting through a fixed-length moment arm about the center of gravity of the door for providing an opposing rotational torque, thereby counteracting the rotational torque caused by the normal force. The first and second rotational torques may be controlled to decrease and increase linearly as the door goes through its motion. In this way, the velocity profile varies in a curve similar to one side of the major axis of an ellipse. The normal force may be provided so as to levitate the door to reduce gravitational forces acting on door rollers. The control may be carried out in an open- or closed-loop fashion.

摘要: Cabs, such as passenger and freight cabs, are transferred from one horizontal transport bogie that is moving along a track to another horizontal transport bogie moving at the same speed on an adjacent track. The cab may be transferred from one train or shuttle of moving bogies to another train of moving bogies, or may be transferred from a train of moving bogies to an auxiliary shuttle or bogie on a siding so as to permit the cab to be brought to a stop, either to allow transfer of passengers, to be moved into the car frame of an adjacent elevator for vertical transport within the building, or to simply await the coming of another train, traveling in either the same or in opposite direction, to which the cab may then be transferred.

摘要: A safety device to arrest movement of an elevator car guided by non-metallic guide rails employs a friction surface mounted on a wedge. The wedge is located in proximity to an angular horizontal locator when in the unengaged position. Upon activation of the wedge during an overspeed condition the horizontal locator urges the friction surface of the wedge into contact with the guide rail.

摘要: A brake mechanism (10) for an elevator (2) is activated in response to an electronic control signal to prevent movement of an elevator car (16) under predetermined conditions. The brake mechanism is preferably a safety mechanism (10) and does not require a governor sheave, a governor rope, or a tension sheave. The safety mechanism in one disclosed example utilizes a solenoid actuator (22b) and an electric motor (40) and gear box assembly (42) to move safety wedges (18) into engagement with a guide rail (20) to stop the elevator car (16). The safety wedges (18) are held in a non-deployed position during normal elevator operation. If there is a power loss or if elevator car speed exceeds a predetermined threshold, an electronic control signal activates the safety mechanism (10) causing the solenoid to release, which causes the safety wedges (18) move in a direction opposite to that of a safety housing (12) mounted for movement with the elevator car (16). Angled surfaces of the safety housing (12) force the safety wedges (18) into engagement with the guide rail (20). The safety mechanism (10) can be selectively reset from a remote location.
