Abstract: A turbine article includes a substrate with a geometric surface feature having a plurality of recesses recessed into the substrate. A ceramic topcoat is disposed over the geometric surface feature. The topcoat includes portions that are separated by faults extending through the topcoat from the geometric surface feature so the topcoat is segmented. A ceramic interlayer is disposed between the topcoat and the geometric surface feature.

Abstract: One aspect of the disclosure involves a nib material comprising a polymeric matrix and carbon nanotubes in the matrix. In one or more embodiments of any of the foregoing embodiments, the matrix comprises a silicone. Abstract: A fan blade for a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The disclosed fan blade includes an airfoil having a leading edge, a trailing edge, a convex side, a concave side and a distal tip. The leading edge, trailing edge, convex side and concave side of the airfoil is at least partially coated with an erosion resistant coating. The distal tip of the airfoil is coated with a bonded abrasive coating. The bonded abrasive coating engages the abradable coating disposed on the fan liner and, because of its low thermal conductivity, reduces heat transfer to the distal tip of the fan blade. The reduction in heat transfer to the distal tip of the fan blade preserves the integrity of erosion resistant coatings that may be applied to the body or the airfoil of the fan blade.

Abstract: A fan blade for a gas turbine engine is disclosed. The disclosed fan blade includes an airfoil having a leading edge, a trailing ling edge, a convex side, a concave side and a distal tip. Abstract: A novel method of depositing grit particles onto a fan blade tip coating is provided. The method enhances grit capture by presenting a softened coating surface for the impinging particles. The softened surface is achieved without high substrate temperatures that could degrade the base metal properties in the fan blade. An auxiliary heat source is used to establish a locally heated and softened surface where the grit deposition takes place. The softened surface greatly increases the probability of grit capture.
