摘要: Devices and methods useful for non-invasively indicating the position or setting of a mechanical device, such as a sensor or control in an implanted medical device, are disclosed. In one exemplary embodiment, a valve housing adapted to receive fluid flow therethrough is provided. The flow of fluid through the valve housing can be controlled, for example, by a valve assembly that has a plurality of predetermined pressure settings. A radio frequency tag can be disposed in the valve assembly, and the masking element and the radio frequency tag can be configured to move relative to one another. The relative positions of the masking element and the radio frequency tag can alter the response of the radio frequency tag to a wireless signal (which can be emitted from an external reading device, for example) and thereby indicate the pressure setting of the valve assembly. For example, in some embodiments, the masking element can selectively cover at least part of the radio frequency tag according to the pressure setting of the valve assembly, which can change a characteristic of the radio frequency tag's response to the wireless signal.

摘要: A device and method for monitoring a patient having a sensing device taking sensor data continuously and a transmitter located on the patient and internally powered. The transmitter is normally in a power-down state and powered-up for transmitting the sensor data. A receiver is located remote from the patient and receives the sensor data transmitted wirelessly from the transmitter. The transmission is typically a burst and can also be initiated on a command. For the burst, the sensor data is accumulated over a first period. The transmitter can transmit the sensor data over a second period of time. The second period of time is shorter than the first period of time. Once the transmission is complete, transmitter can be powered down. A further step displays the sensor data at the receiver in pseudo real-time. The display is shifted by a sum of the first and the second period of time.

摘要: A coil device is provided with a stretch resistant feature. The device includes a wound coil defining a lumen and a stretch resistant member at least partially received within the lumen. A headpiece is formed by a joining of the coil and a restrictor member, typically by plasma welding. The restrictor member is also at least partially received within the lumen and defines an aperture adapted to movably receive a portion of the stretch resistant member to allow the wound coil to stretch and elongate. The stretch resistant member includes an enlarged portion that is larger than the aperture and adapted to engage the restrictor member to prevent or resist stretching of the wound coil. The restrictor member may be provided as a separate element fixedly secured to the coil wire, or the coil wire may include one or more minor turns adapted to perform the function of the restrictor member.

摘要: A method of occluding a defect in the wall of a body vessel is provided. An outlet portion of a microcatheter is delivered to the defect, then at least a body portion of a thin film occlusion device is radially expanded from a collapsed orientation to a deployed orientation for engaging the microcatheter and covering at least a portion of the defect. Thereafter, an embolic media is released into the defect from the microcatheter for facilitating thrombosis. The body portion of the occlusion device is substantially porous in the collapsed orientation, but substantially non-porous in the deployed orientation for preventing prolapse of the embolic media into the body vessel.

摘要: A method for reducing or preventing a human brain disorder relating to the presence of a pathogenic substance in cerebrospinal fluid by selecting a human for treatment as a patient and placing a proximal end of a first catheter, having at least a first lumen, in a first sub-dural location within the brain of the patient to establish open communication between the first lumen and cerebrospinal fluid of the patient. For an extended period of time, a curcumin agent selected from at least one of curcumin, a curcumin hybrid and a curcumin analog is delivered to the cerebrospinal fluid to interact with the pathogenic substance to attenuate its effect on the brain.

摘要: A method and device for reattaching adjacent bone plates includes an inner seat, a pin, and an outer seat. The pin is fixedly connected to the inner seat. The outer seat is selectively connected to the pin so that adjacent bone plates are securely held in place between the inner seat and the outer seat. The outer seat includes a first outer seat and a second outer seat that are slidably connected together. The first outer seat has a slot. The second outer seat also has a slot. The first outer seat and the second outer seat are movable between a pin engaging position and a pin locking position.

摘要: A medical device for placing an embolic device at a predetermined site within a vessel of the body including a delivery catheter and a flexible pusher member slidably disposed within the lumen of the catheter. An embolic device is retained within the delivery catheter by a mechanical interlocking mechanism which includes an engagement member attached to the distal end of the pusher member and extends through a retaining ring at the proximal end of the embolic device. A detachment member extends through an aperture at the distal end of the engagement member thereby locking the embolic device onto the pusher member. A kicker member extends from the distal end of the pusher member and is biased so as to lift the retaining ring off of the engagement member to ensure the release of the embolic device when the detachment member is withdrawn from the aperture of the engagement member.

摘要: A detachable introducer and method of using such introducer is disclosed for inserting an embolic coil deployment system into the tortuous vasculature of the human brain for placing an embolic coil within an aneurysm. The introducer includes a sheath having a lumen, a side opening and a longitudinal slit. A deployment catheter with a conical expander member is slideably disposed through the side opening of the sheath and through the lumen of the sheath. The conical expander member detaches the introducer from the deployment catheter through the longitudinal slit of the sheath.

摘要: A method of delivering embolic particles to an aneurysm includes inserting a delivery catheter into the vasculature of a patient and directing the distal end of the delivery catheter to a pre-selected deployment site. Embolic particles are loaded into the delivery catheter, and hydraulic pressure is applied to move the embolic particles through the delivery catheter. The hydraulic pressure is adjusted to control the velocity of the embolic particles and to reduce jetting.
