    Abstract: A split wheel assembly for reception of pneumatic tires is provided with a safety feature to ensure that the two halves of the wheel cannot be dismantled when the tire thereon is pressurized. The assembly flanges of the two wheel portions have series of assembling apertures which register in pairs. The aperture on one of the flanges is circumferentially extending, and has a narrow end and a broad end. The narrow end of the aperture extends to an axially extending depression on the surface presented towards the flange of the other rim section. A bolt passes through the apertures, for assembling purposes, the bolt having a washer which fits into the depression, and having a securing nut which is sized so as to pass through the broad end of the aperture but not through the narrow end. In order to dismantle the wheel, the nut must be loosened sufficiently to cause separation of the two rim flanges so that the washer can move out of the depression, and the bolt can be moved axially to the broad end of the aperture. Such separation of the rim sections automatically causes deflation of the tire, if it is pressurized.

    Abstract: A drawn aluminum wheel for use with automotive vehicles. The present wheel comprises: first and second generally cupshaped wheel halves, each of the wheel halves having a center section, an integral rim section, and a central opening in the center section, the wheel halves being positioned with the center sections back-to-back and the central openings coaxial; and a centering element including a disc-shaped portion having a central opening therein and an integral cylindrical collar along the inner circumference thereof, the centering element being positioned between the wheel halves with the collar extending into the central openings therein, thereby aligning the wheel halves. O rings positioned within grooves on opposite sides of the disc-shaped portion of the centering element form an airtight seal between the centering element and each of the wheel halves. The wheel halves are connected together, preferably by rivets.

    Abstract: A lockring which fits between the rimbase and removable bead seat band of the rim for a large pneumatic tire and having surfaces mating with surfaces of the bead seat band and rimbase disposed at angles with which result in great frictional contact when the tire is inflated. This produces a wedging effect and eliminates the need for ''''drivers'''' which are interengaging lugs on the rimbase and removable bead seat band to prevent relative rotation of these parts.

    Abstract: A light and strong automobile wheel particularly adapted for race cars and other high performance automobiles comprising two rim members and a spider assembly in which the portion of the spider assembly between the hub and the outer rim-supporting ring or felly comprises a sandwich panel structure made up of outer skin members or panels with an intermediate honeycomb reinforcing structure in which the axes of the cells are parallel to the axis of the wheel. The parts, including the honeycomb material, preferably are composed of light metal such as an aluminum or magnesium alloy. The parts of the spider assembly are adhesively bonded together. The rim members are bolted to the rim supporting ring.
