Abstract:
A pumping system includes s pump, a mechanical coupling device, and a cam shaft. The pump is effective to transfer fuel into an engine. The mechanical coupling device is coupled to the pump. The cam shaft couples to the mechanical coupling device. The cam shaft has an axis extending there through and rotates about the axis. The rotating of the cam shaft is effective to engage the mechanical coupling device and transfer a mechanical force created by the rotating to the mechanical coupling device. The mechanical coupling device is engaged to allow the mechanical force to be transferred to the fuel pump and activate the fuel pump when fuel is to be moved by the pump. The mechanical coupling device is disengaged to disallow the mechanical force from being transferred to the fuel pump and prevent the operation of the fuel pump.
Abstract:
A roller tappet includes a housing, and the housing includes a first housing element and a second housing element. The first housing element has a receiving region configured to receive a roller of the roller tappet, and the second housing element is separate from the first housing element and is forged. The first housing element may be formed from metal sheet.
Abstract:
A cam follower including a plunger intended to execute a reciprocating movement in an exterior body. The plunger includes a plunger body having a cylindrical exterior surface, an anti-rotation device extending radially beyond the cylindrical exterior surface of the pusher body and engaging via a matching structure in the exterior body, a roller providing the contact with a cam, and a sleeve rotatably supporting the roller in the plunger body. The plunger body includes at least one lateral bore and the sleeve is inserted in the bore. In order to avoid additional components and assembly steps to constitute the anti-rotation device, the present invention proposes to use one end of the sleeve as the anti-rotation device.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a roller, adapted to equip a mechanical system forming a cam follower or a rocker arm. The roller is centered on a central axis and comprising: an outer cylindrical surface adapted to roll on a cam, an inner cylindrical bore adapted to receive a pin belonging to the mechanical system, and two lateral faces extending radially to the central axis. The method includes a machining step forming circular grooves that are concentric with each other on at least one of the lateral faces of the roller. The roller can be installed within a mechanical system.
Abstract:
A valve system for providing closing force to one or more valves of an engine is provided. In one example, the system comprises a first tappet bore in fluid communication with a second tappet bore via a bidirectional oil passage. The system may provide valve closing forces to assist in the closing of valves coupled to the tappet bores, lowering required valve spring forces.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an actuator of an electrohydraulic gas exchange valve drive of an internal combustion engine, comprising an actuator housing (4), which can be fixed in the internal combustion engine and which comprises a bore (9); a valve play compensation element (8) which is received in said bore in an axially movable manner and which comprises a compensating housing (12) for actuating the gas exchange valve (1); and an axial stop which limits the extending movement of the compensation housing out of the bore (9) and which comprises stopes (14, 15) that overlap each other radially. The stop (14) on the compensation housing-side is a collar of a sleeve (18) that surrounds the outer casing of the compensation housing said collar extending outwards in a radial manner.
Abstract:
A cam follower for actuating at least one gas exchange valve of an internal combustion engine is provided, including a cam contact roller that is supported by a plain bearing on a pin (13). A first sliding surface of the plain bearing faces the cam contact roller and a second sliding surface of the plain bearing faces the pin. The plain bearing has a lubricant reservoir, in order to provide at least one of the sliding surfaces of the plain bearing with lubricant, and the lubricant reservoir is arranged at a distance from the end sides of the plain bearing.
Abstract:
A roller tappet having a housing near whose drive side front end, two diametrically opposing flats receding from an outer wall of the housing are arranged, each of the two flats having a seat with a U-shape open in a direction towards the drive side front end. A pin is mounted in the seats, a roller serving as a run-on surface of a periodic stroke producer extends on said pin, and a support for a tappet follower element is seated axially under the roller near a driven side front end of the roller tappet. A retention element is provided for the pin in an axial direction of the pin and a retention element in the seats of the pin is provided for preventing the pin from exiting axially out of the housing, and these two retention elements are united.
Abstract:
A variable valve actuation system to actuate and control the seating velocity of an internal combustion engine valve is disclosed. The system comprises: a housing having a bore formed therein; an outer piston slidably disposed in the bore, the outer piston having an orifice formed therein; a catch piston slidably disposed in the outer piston; and an cone-shaped extension extending from the inner piston, wherein the cone-shaped extension is adapted to provide a variable flow area through the outer piston orifice to provide improved engine valve seating.
Abstract:
A common rail fuel pump includes a cam shaft with at least one cam rotatably supported in a pump housing. A plurality of tappet assemblies are each reciprocatingly movable in the pump housing, and include an axle pin mounted in a tappet, and a roller mounted in contact for rotation about the axle pin. Each end of the roller includes a plurality of non-contiguous planar thrust surfaces separated by lubrication grooves. A lubrication pathway for the roller includes in sequence a lubrication passage that opens to a roller bearing surface, movement along the roller bearing surface into the lubrication grooves, and then between the planar thrust surface of the roller and a counterpart thrust face of the tappet responsive to rotation of the roller on the cam shaft.
