Methods and systems are provided for an engine oil system of a cylinder head. In one example, an engine oil system may include a first oil gallery and a second oil gallery fluidly coupled to each other via a plurality of oil chambers. Each oil chamber includes a plug, and one or more of the plugs may include a slot shaped to direct a flow of engine oil from a solenoid valve to the second oil gallery.

A valve bridge assembly is disclosed for an internal combustion engine. The assembly may have a valve bridge with a center portion, opposing lateral extensions, a bore passing through first and second ends of the center portion, and an internal annular shelf. The assembly may also have a cylindrical housing with a main portion, a tip portion protruding from the second end of the center portion, and a positioning flange resting on the internal annular shelf. The assembly may further have a plunger with a first end having a larger opening and a second end having a smaller opening. The first end may be disposed within the main portion of the cylindrical housing, and the second end may protrude from the first end of the center portion. The assembly may also have a valve assembly disposed within the larger opening of the plunger, and a spring disposed inside the cylindrical housing.

A cover (01) with an integrated oil storage function for a housing of an electrohydraulic valve drive for at least one intake valve of an internal combustion engine. According to the invention, an oil storage cavity (02) of each cylinder of the internal combustion engine is directly attached to the cover (01).

An engine oil capacitor which allows a larger volume of oil to be used in an internal combustion engine without reducing fuel economy or increasing engine package size. Oil flow through the normal oil drainback holes is partially restricted, resulting in a substantial quantity of oil being temporarily stored in an engine compartment, such as the camshaft compartment, during engine operation.

A structure of internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder member composed of a cylinder which accomodates a piston connected with a crankshaft, a crankcase provided to accomodate said crankshaft, a rocker case provided to accomodate a valve actuating mechanism, an oil return passage constituting means for leading oil in said rocker case into said crankcase, and a restraining means for restraining an air flow within said crankcase from entering into said oil return passage constituting means. By the effect of the restraining means provided in relation to the oil return passage constituting means, the air flow generated by the rotation of the crankshaft does not work as a dynamic pressure of hingering the flowingdown of oil.

A casing for the lubrication of a camshaft of an internal combustion engine for automotive vehicles is partially filled with lubricating oil to effect splash lubrication of cams carried by the camshaft and has at least one lateral overflow port to maintain the oil at a substantially constant level. The overflow port is configured so as to prevent removal of oil which is not in excess of the required amount as a result of the shifting of the oil due to a uphill or downhill inclination of the vehicle. According to a preferred embodiment, the overflow port has a horizontal lower wall which corresponds to the desired maximum level of oil when the vehicle is level and this lower wall is flanked by inclined walls which correspond to the desired maximum level when the vehicle is in uphill and downhill orientations, respectively. More particularly, the preferred overflow port embodiment has a trapezoidal configuration which flares toward a side of a casing facing the camshaft and merges into a cylindrical configuration.

A mechanical system, forming a cam follower or a rocker arm, the mechanical system comprising: a support element; a pin extending between two opposite ends along a first axis and supported by the support element; and a roller movable in rotation relative to the pin around the first axis and adapted to roll on a cam. The support element includes an inner cavity in which the roller is at least partially arranged and which is adapted to contain an oil bath for lubricating the roller. Examples of applications for the mechanical system include a follower device, an injection pump or a valve actuator.

A cylinder head including a dam defining a reservoir surrounding the periphery of the fuel pump tappet/roller follower mounting hole is provided. The cylinder head includes a tappet/roller follower mounted in the tappet/roller follower mounting hole and in communication with a cam and a fuel pump. The fuel pump is located on the high side of the head and oil drainage occurs in a direction away from the mounting hole. The dam and reservoir are configured to retain lubricant in the mounting hole and the sliding interface between the mounting hole and the tappet/roller follower. The dam and reservoir are configured to retain a minimum level of oil in the mounting hole when the head is in vehicle position. A method is provided for retaining lubrication in the tappet/roller follower hole by forming a dam defining a reservoir in the head and passively providing lubricant to the tappet/roller follower hole.

A fluid reservoir assembly for providing a supply of a lubricating fluid for an internal combustion engine, specifically for use in marine environments. The assembly includes an outer shell for containing and protecting the assembly, a ventless flexible liner for housing a supply of lubricating fluid, where the flexible liner is located within the outer shell, and an orifice and conduit that extends through the ventless flexible liner and the shell for permitting the introduction of lubricating fluid into the ventless flexible liner and for permitting the removal of lubricating fluid therefrom. The fluid reservoir assembly is constructed and arranged such that the ventless flexible liner is in a generally collapsed state until a lubricating fluid is introduced therein through the orifice. The introduction of lubricating fluid into the ventless flexible liner through the orifice expands the ventless flexible liner, while the removal of lubricating fluid from the ventless flexible liner collapses the ventless flexible liner proportionally as the lubricating fluid is removed and delivered to the engine. The present invention eliminates the need for a vent, thus eliminating the problems associated with the prior art vented fluid reservoirs.
