Abstract:
A semi-spherical shoe 1 includes an end face 1B which is disposed in sliding contact with a swash plate 3 and a semi-spherical surface 1A which is disposed in sliding contact with a semi-spherical recess 2A formed in a piston 2. A spherical recess 1C is formed in the top portion of the semi-spherical surface 1A to define a space 4 which serves as a reservoir of lubricant oil between the spherical recess 1C and the semi-spherical recess 2B. If the volume of the space 4 which serves as a reservoir of lubricant oil is increased, an accumulation of abraded power in the spherical recess 1C which forms the space can be prevented in a favorable manner.
Abstract:
A hardfacing for downhole progressing cavity pumps is disclosed as well as a method for producing same. The hardfacing consists of a metal carbide layer applied to the ferrous pump rotor body by way of plasma spraying and a top layer of metallic material having a lower hardness than the metal carbide. The metal carbide layer has a grainy surface with a plurality of peaks and intermediate depressions, the peaks being formed by metal carbide grains at the surface of the metal carbide layer. The thickness of the top layer is adjusted such that the depressions between the peaks of the metal carbide layer are completely filled thereby providing the rotor with a metal carbide hardfacing of significantly reduced surface roughness. In the process of the invention, the pump rotor, which may be provided with a molybdenum bonding layer, is plasma coated with the metal carbide and the resulting carbide layer is covered with the metallic material top layer. The top layer is polished either until the dimensions thereof are within the tolerances acceptable for the finished rotor or until a majority of the peaks of the carbide layer are exposed. The hardfacing significantly increases the service life of the rotor and stator of downhole progressing cavity pumps.
Abstract:
A low-friction piston construction for use in an oil-fed cylinder bore with the piston skirt relieved to define lands that are coated with SFL (graphite, MoS.sub.2, BN, and a special expoxy resin). A method of making such piston construction including provision of asperities on the skirt wall onto which the SFL coating is thermally sprayed and formation of small pockets at the mouth of the asperities to additionally act as oil replenishing reservoirs. A method of using such piston construction in an engine which comprises provisions of a slightly increased gap between the piston and cylinder wall and formation of a transferred SFL coating from the piston to the cylinder wall resulting in two polished microsmooth mating coatings, each attractive to oil films.
