Abstract:
The invention provides a method and an apparatus for determining the bending angle of a work piece to be bent by means of a bending apparatus comprising a punch member and a die member cooperating with the punch member. The die member is provided with at least two channels through which pressurized air is blown towards a leg of the bent work piece. For measuring the pressure in each of the channels, a plurality of pressure sensing devices is provided and connected to a common control and analyzing assembly. On the basis of the pressure values measured by the pressure sensing devices and with the aid of formulae, tables, three dimensional diagrams or with the aid of a neuronal network, the control and analyzing assembly calculates the bending angle.
Abstract:
A tilt testing device simultaneously measures the angle of tilt of a plurty of nozzles of a multi-nozzle rocket motor and the direction in which each nozzle is tilted. A programable calculator computes the composite effect that such nozzle tilt would have on spin, pitch and yaw of a missile in flight. The calculator displays the numerical value of the composite effect, indicates the acceptance or rejection of the inspected work piece, and, when desired, prints a record of the resultant calculations. The tilt tester utilizes an electromechanical-pneumatic combination to lower a plurality of alignment determining probes into the nozzles while the work piece is clamped against a reference surface. An indexing rotating sensor assembly scans each probe for its angle of tilt and sends signals to the calculator for interpretation and display.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for measuring the amount of lean present in a glass container. A glass container is mounted for rotation about its vertical axis. A pivotally mounted follower member is positioned to be in contact with the upper portion of the container. A fluidic position transmitter is mounted behind the follower and directs a stream of air from a nozzle against the rear face of the follower. The position transmitter will keep a constant gap between its nozzle and the follower by moving the nozzle. As the glass container is rotated, the follower will move in response to any deviation of the top portion thereof from a true vertical axis. The position transmitter will generate a back pressure signal in response to movement of its nozzle to maintain a constant spacing from the moving follower. This back pressure signal may then be processed to obtain a measure, in dimensional units, of the deviation of the top portion of the container from a true vertical axis.

A probe for determining the swirl angle of the exhaust gasses of a turbine engine, has an elongate body with a fastener, the elongate body having a tip at its proximal end and a head at its distal end, the elongate body having at least two passageways extending from the tip to the head, each passageway having an aperture at the tip and a port at the head which is connectable to a pressure sensor.

Sensors for measuring rotation about an axis are disclosed, along with methods of making and using the same. The sensors can utilize ionic liquids and electrodes that provide a unique electrical signal at each angle of rotation about an axis. The sensors can include a solid structure with a channel that circumnavigates the axis, electrodes disposed within the channel, and an ionic liquid positioned within the channel.
