An exemplary voltage or current sensing device includes a drive circuitry configured to deliver a drive current to a magnetic core operably coupled with a conductor, for driving the core to cyclical magnetic saturation. The device also includes sense circuitry configured to receive a voltage signal corresponding to an application current in the conductor. The device also includes signal processing circuitry configured to sample the voltage signal, wherein a first sample is in phase with the drive current and a second sample is out of phase with the drive current. The device also includes a feedback loop configured to deliver a compensation current to the magnetic core, wherein the compensation current is configured to balance the magnetic core and wherein the compensation current is based at least in part on the first sample in phase with the drive current.

    摘要: A device for sensing electrical current or voltage in an electrical distribution system using an actively compensated current ratio transformer that includes a first magnetic core having a first permeability and a second magnetic core having a second permeability higher than the first permeability. A primary winding having P turns is coupled with the first and second magnetic cores, a measurement winding having M turns is coupled with the first and second magnetic cores so that current in the primary winding induces current in the measurement winding, and a sense winding having S turns is coupled with the second magnetic core. An amplifier coupled to the sense winding receives a voltage developed across the sense winding and produces a compensation current in response to the received voltage. The amplifier has an output coupled to the sense winding to feed the compensation current through the sense winding to reduce the voltage developed across the sense winding voltage to substantially zero. A burden resistor is coupled to the measurement winding and the sense winding for receiving the sum of the current induced in the measurement winding and the compensation current.

The assembly includes at least one conducting pin corresponding to each of the first and second current transformers and inserted through the housing to expose a top end and a bottom end. The top end of the pin is electrically coupled to an end of the conducting wire of the corresponding current transformer through a window in the housing coinciding with the current transformer. The top end of a common pin is electrically coupled through the window to the opposite end of the coil conductor. The bottom end of each pin is configured to be coupled to a printed circuit board. The housing includes first and second elongated rings passing substantially through the centers of the current transformers and configured to accept first and second current lines.

    摘要: This invention relates to a nulling current transformer. More particularly, this invention relates to a nulling current transformer for accurately detecting current and giving an improved response, accuracy and stability using toroidal current transformer technology along with active components. This invention finds particular application in switchgear devices such as residual current devices and metering operations. The nulling current transformer is implemented in a closed magnetic core having at least one primary winding inductively coupled thereto. A secondary winding is also inductively coupled to said magnetic core, the secondary winding being responsive to any magnetic flux generated in said magnetic core. A separate tertiary winding is also inductively coupled to said magnetic core, the tertiary winding being responsive to any magnetic flux generated in the magnetic core. A nulling means is also provided for receiving the output of said tertiary winding and nulling the received output, the nulled output of the nulling means being connected to the input of said secondary winding such that it serves to cancel the magnetic flux in the magnetic core.
