摘要: The invention provides a process and apparatus for on-site purification of photofinishing effluent produced by mini-lab photofinishing apparatus and the like. The process includes passing the effluent through an adsorbent to adsorb inorganic and organic compounds to produce a primary filtrate fluid. The primary filtrate fluid is directed to a membrane filter which in turn discharges relatively clean permeate fluid which passes through the membrane filter as a secondary filtrate fluid, and rejects concentrate fluid that does not pass through the membrane filter. Preferably the effluent is passed through a plurality of adsorbents of which at least one adsorbent adsorbs inorganic compounds, and at least one other adsorbent adsorbs organic compounds. The adsorbent is provided in containers, each of which has an inlet and outlet provided with conduit coupling means, and conduits interconnect the containers in a series flow path relationship. The container that first receives the effluent becomes exhausted first, and the container receiving the effluent last is the least exhausted. As a container becomes exhausted, a fresh container is substituted and appropriate conduits are connected so that the fresh container becomes the last container.

摘要: A silver recovery device for recovering silver from photographic fluid is provided. The silver recovery device includes an outside container having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. The fluid inlet has an extension tube which causes the entering fluid to fall upon a silver recovery cartridge. The silver recovery cartridge generally includes compressed steel wool surrounded by an outside liner. The steel wool reacts with the silver contained within the photographic fluid. The silver recovery cartridge can also include baffle plates for further dispersing the fluid as it filters through the steel wool. The silver recovery cartridge is supported within the outside container by a support grid. The support grid allows fluid to filter through the cartridge and then flow out the fluid outlet.

摘要: A processing solution such as a developer and fixer is maintained at optimum processing ability by conducting electricity through an anion exchange membrane. In FIG. 1 , for example, an anion exchange membrane A1 and an only H.sup.+ and/or OH.sup.- permeable diaphragm M1 are disposed in a tank 11 to define three compartments 11a, 11b, 11c which are charged with electrolyte solution E1, developer Dev, and electrolyte solution E2 and have disposed therein anode 22, cathode 21 and anode 24, respectively. Silver halide photosensitive material is processed by passing it through the developer. Electricity is conducted between anode 22 and cathode 21 during processing and between anode 24 and cathode 21 during quiescent periods.

摘要: The invention is accomplished by providing an iodide ion absorbing method and article. The article is a composite article comprising a surfactant, an iodide absorbing medium, and a polymer that is permeable to iodide ion overlaying the iodide absorbing medium. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the polymer is an ionic polymer and the surfactant is an ionic surfactant with a charge opposite to that of the polymer. The surfactant can be incorporated in the absorbing medium, in the polymer, or it can overlay the polymer. In a preferred form of the invention, a substrate is coated with the iodide absorbing medium, a layer of an ionic polymer is overlaid on the absorbing medium, and a layer incorporating an ionic surfactant is overlaid onto the polymer. The ionic surfactant also may be placed in a layer between the polymer and the absorbing medium. A preferred absorbing medium is silver bromide. Preferred polymers are copolymers of methacrylate, methacrylamide, acrylate, or acrylamide monomers in which at least one monomer is cationic and the others are nonionic. Preferred surfactants are anionic surfactants, in particular, a mixture of sodium di- and tri-isopropylnaphthalenesulfonates sold commercially as Alkanol.RTM. XC, and a sodium sulfosuccinate diester sold commercially as Aerosol.RTM. OT.

摘要: Heavy metal ions are recovered from a dilute aqueous solution by flowing the solution through either a single bed of ion-absorbing material in successive forward and reverse directions, or through a first bed of ion-absorbing material and thereafter through a second bed of ion-absorbing material in the reverse directon of flow. The reversal of flow is to periodically mechanically agitate a bed of ion-absorbing material to dislodge contaminants, such as gelatin. The method is accomplished by using one enclosed vessel, or a pair of enclosed vessels, that have valves to control the direction of flow. A timing device preferably automatically reverses the direction of flow about each hour. After a relatively large number of reversals of flow the heavy metal ions are recovered from the ion-absorbing material and the same is regenerated in the process to again absorb ions from the dilute aqueous solution.

摘要: The present invention relates to a processing system and method for processing photographic material. The processing system and method of the invention is adapted to recover water from humid air for reuse in the processor, as well as convert a liquid waste processing solution into a dry waste for disposal. In the system and method of the present invention, heated air is circulated through the processor and comes into contact with a cold surface to condense the heated air. The water resulting from this contacting of the heated air with the cold surface can be collected and recycled back to the processor for reuse in the processor. Further, waste solution can be absorbed by a matting material appropriately placed in the processor which evaporates the waste solution to a solid waste for subsequent disposal.

摘要: A method for inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in an aqueous medium comprises contacting the aqueous medium with a permeable body comprising material which interacts with the microorganisms. Such interaction involves a change in the chemical structure of the material resulting from the action of one or more of the microorganisms. The permeable body may take the form of a permeable bag containing plant fibers and may be used for the treatment of photoprocessor wash waters.
