    Abstract: A storage manager for an information management system determines whether one or more predetermined conditions have been met for transferring metadata of previously performed backup jobs stored in a first management database. A backup job may correspond to a backup operation of a primary storage device of a first client computing device. In response to a determination that one or more of the predetermined conditions have been met, the storage manager may transfer metadata for a second plurality of backup jobs to a second management database of a recovery manager. The recovery manager may receive a request to restore data to the primary storage device of the first client computing device based on the metadata of the second plurality of backup jobs. A media agent managed by the recovery manager may then restore the requested data to the primary storage device of the first client computing device.

    Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein are well suited to restoring deduplicated backup data from cloud-based storage and from multi-node replicated files systems, and they also improve performance in more traditional data storage technologies. Pre-restore steps include analysis of deduplication indexes to identify data segments that are stored consecutively on storage media. Reading data in aggregate runs of consecutively stored data segments reduces interactions with storage media that hosts the deduplicated data and speeds up retrieval. Parallel reads from multiple storage devices in multi-node replicated file systems also speed up retrieval. An illustrative enhanced media agent pre-fetches data (stored in deduplicated form) in anticipation of read requests that are expected in the restore operation. The pre-fetched data is temporarily stored locally at the media agent, which is responsible for interfacing with storage media and is further responsible for orchestrating the disclosed techniques within an illustrative data storage management system.

    Abstract: A backup policy including user-configured options for backing up a cluster of virtual machines is reviewed. Configuration details for the cluster is obtained from a virtual machine manager of the cluster. An evaluation is made as to whether host-level data movers that run inside hypervisors of hosts of the cluster support the user-configured options in the backup policy and the configuration details of the cluster. If the host-level data movers are supported, the host-level data movers are installed into the hypervisors running on the hosts of the cluster. If the host-level data movers are not supported, one or more of in-guest data movers that run as guests inside the virtual machines to be backed up or backup proxy data movers that run as separate virtual machines and outside the virtual machines to be backed up are provisioned.

    Abstract: A data protection method for protecting backup data stored in a data backup device is executed by a mobile device. When the mobile device is included in a trust circle of the data backup device, the mobile device can receive a certified signal, can execute a file manager of a backup APP for loading the backup data, and can generate a first invitation code. Otherwise, the mobile device cannot access the backup data, and displays a code input menu for inputting a second invitation code. The data backup device can certify the first invitation code and the second invitation code for determining whether the mobile device can be added into the trust circle of the data backup device. Therefore, the mobile device included in the trust circle can access the backup data, and the privacy of the backup data can be secured.
