摘要： An apparatus and method for forming a sheet of material into a flower pot or flower pot cover with fins. The apparatus comprises a male mold, a female mold having an opening mating with the male mold, and means for moving the male mold into and out of the opening of the female mold with the sheet of material between the two molds. To form outwardly extending fins in the flower pot cover, fingers are extended from the male mold to push folds in the sheet of material between segments of the female mold. The female segments are closed on the folds to form fins in the sheet of material as the male mold is pressed into the female mold to make the flower pot cover. To form inwardly extending fins, fingers are moved between the female segments to push folds in the sheet of material between segments of the male mold. The segments of the male mold close on the folds to form fins in the sheet of the material as the male mold is pressed into the female mold to make the flower pot cover.

摘要： In the erection of rectangular tray-type cartons from blanks of foldable sheet material, corner tabs which are to be uppermost in the erected carton are first folded up from the plane of the blank, which is then passed through a die by a punch to form the side wall. On completion of the stroke of the punch, the pair of opposed elongate panels which carry the uppermost tabs are folded outwardly by folding bars carried by the punch. The partially erected carton is then transferred to a continuously moving conveyor and the other pair of elongate panels are folded outwardly by oscillating fingers and plough bars. The upstanding tabs are then heated by travelling hot air jets and pressed down by pressure rollers to seal them to the other tabs and complete the horizontal peripheral flange which extends continuously around the carton.

摘要： A sliding plunger with rack-shaped opposite sides controls opposite rotations of a pair of rotating sector gears, with which integrally rotate two arms extending up to the proximity of the conveying units. Connecting rods are finally interposed between said arms and said conveying units to transform the rotary motion of the arms into a corresponding translatory motion of said conveying units in opposite senses along fixed rectilinear guides transversally disposed with respect to the carton support base. The control of the sliding of the rack plunger can be given by a pneumatic cylinder or by a hand-control lever. There can be provided adjustable means for limiting the sliding plunger stroke in the sense corresponding to the mutual removal of the conveying units and elastical thrust means acting on the same plunger in the opposite sense. The connecting rods moreover can be provided with a succession of holes, which can be alternatively chosen to change the distance among their points of pivotment with the rotating arms and the conveying units.

摘要： A process and machine for manufacturing a tubular element, for example for use in forming boxes, in which a strip of material is wound around a mandrel having a cross-section corresponding to that of the tubular element to be formed. The strip of material is arranged to extend in a plane and the mandrel is applied against the strip in a direction perpendicular to said plane to cause lateral parts of the strip to lift up on either side of the mandrel and to define two flaps projecting above the mandrel. A force is then exerted on each of the flaps in a direction parallel to said plane to fold the flaps down onto the mandrel and to bring their free edges into abutment.

摘要： A die set comprising a creasing rule and a matrix precisely alignable on a platen and an opposed cutting plate respectively for scoring or creasing card-like material in the manufacture of carton blanks. Either one of the die members has a ferromagnetic element encapsulated in it while the other die member has a similarly associated field-creating magnet element. To achieve precise alignment of the matrix and rule the matrix with magnetically coupled rule is placed on the platen, which is advanced towards the cutting plate until a pressure-sensitive adhesive provided on the base of the matrix contacts the surface of the cutting plate. Upon separation of the platen the matrix adheres to the cutting plate and separates from the rule which remains on the platen in position for mating with the matrix.
