At least four folding units each provided with a controllable gripping element support a custom sized blank supporting an article in a supporting station. The at least one of the folding units is configured for folding respective side and/or end panels of the blank upwardly. The at least four folding units comprise a front pair of folding units and a rear pair of folding units positioned at a longitudinal distance from the front pair of folding units, and the folding units of the front pair and the folding units of the rear pair are positioned at a respective transverse distance from each other. Said longitudinal distance and/or said transverse distance are adjustable.

    摘要: A method is provided for shaping an airbag into a predetermined packet by simply compressing the airbag without regularly folding the airbag. In one form, a curtain airbag is provided in a case so that an upper side thereof is disposed near a bottom face and a lower side thereof is disposed near an opening. The curtain airbag is inflated by the supply of air. The curtain airbag is compressed from a side of the opening toward the bottom face by a contact member. In this case, air is discharged from the curtain airbag through an aperture for an inflator. After the curtain airbag is compressed into a predetermined small packet, an airbag packet is drawn out of the case while sliding along the bottom face. After the airbag packet is drawn out of the case, the shape of the airbag packet is retained by a shape-retaining member.

As the collapsed sleeve is moved through a packaging machine it is partially opened so that the leading panel extends at an angle to the horizontal. A continuous upward force is then delivered to the leading panel to cause the leading panel to pivot up about its upstream fold line until it reaches the vertical. The collapsed sleeve is partially opened by elevating side flaps connected to an upper panel to cause the upper panel to be elevated. One way of accomplishing this is to cause the upper flaps to ride up over a fixed cam surface while lower flaps connected to a lower panel move under the cam to prevent the lower panel from moving in an upward direction.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for making axial-flow filters wherein a sectorial-shaped sheet of filter material having corrugations therein parallel to the curved ends thereof is made from a flat sheet of filter material in the first step, and thereafter the corrugated sheet is made into an annulus to obtain the final product. In the first step, an edge portion of a flat sheet of filter material is attached to a sectorial-shaped mold, having a mold surface defined by curved ridges and valleys parallel to the curved ends of the mold, so that the sheet is slanted up away from the mold surface from the smaller curved end of the mold. Thereafter a set of curved forming blades is moved down toward the mold to engage the sheet and to fold it successively and consecutively across the ridges of the mold and beneath the edges of the blades into the valleys of the mold to corrugate the sheet. In the second step, the corrugated sheet thus produced is made into an annulus by using a contouring belt which embraces the larger convexly curved ends of the sheet and constricts the sheet into an annulus.

    摘要: A mechanism for automatically forming and laminating flaps of individual carton blanks as the blanks are moved along a prescribed longitudinal path. The mechanism includes a hopper for supplying individual carton blanks to a conveyor that leads along the prescribed path away from the hopper. A vacuum head is movably located below the hopper to remove successive blanks therefrom. The suction head moves the individual blanks downwardly into engagement with the conveyor. Lugs on the conveyor move the successive carton blanks along the path toward a flap folding mechanism. The flaps are folded over onto the carton blank in two separate steps. Firstly, the flaps are folded upwardly to a substantially 90 degree orientation with the remainder of the blank. This is done by a pair of pivoted arms on opposite sides of the conveyor. As the carton blank continues to move along the conveyor, the upwardly folded flaps are engaged and folded on downwardly into engagement with the remainder of the blank. Pressure rollers are provided at a discharge end of the conveyor to firmly press the folded flaps against the blank bodies. The rollers are driven at a speed greater than the operational speed of the conveyor so as to pull the blanks from engagement with the conveyor lugs and direct them to a carton forming station. The complete flap laminating operation is performed as the cartons move along the path toward a carton forming station.
