摘要: A cylindrical tubular piezo-electric actuating element for recording heads, particularly in mosaic-type recording equipment in which a recording ink or fluid, contained in a compression chamber surrounded by the cylindrical actuating element, is forced out in droplets by piezo-electric constriction of the actuating element, the latter having dimensions which are such that the quotient derived from the wall thickness and the arithmetic mean of the internal and external diameters of the element matches the Poisson number (.mu.) of the piezo-electric material employed, whereby maximum constriction of the internal diameter is effected with no change in the external diameter of the actuating element.

摘要: An ink jet printing head comprising a head body made from a material having high specific stiffness and the head body includes an ink passage which is kept small to retain the high body stiffness. The ink passage comprises a narrow slot connected with internal holes in the body which lead to ink inlet and exit ports. A nozzle plate having a plurality of orifices is fixed to the front of the head body and a piezoelectric crystal is fixed to the back of the head body. The piezoelectric crystal is kept thin compared to the head thickness, typically on the order of 1/20 to 1/30 of the body thickness, so that the effect of the crystal on the resonant characteristics of the assembly is kept small. The ink jet head provides a plurality of columns or jets of ink which are excited in such a way as to break up into uniformly and equally spaced drops at a fixed distance from the nozzle plate containing the orifices which produce the jets.

摘要: A modulator for ink jet printers is provided for operation over a wide bandwidth of high frequency drop rates. The longitudinal dimensions of each part of the modulator are made small compared to the wavelength of the shortest standing longitudinal acoustic wave that may be produced in a structure of the same material as the part in question. A piezoelectric crystal is seated within a mount acoustically decoupled at the edges therof. An electrode is axially aligned with the crystal and placed in contact with the crystal. A short hollow cylinder forms an ink chamber axially aligned with the crystal. The end of the ink chamber opposite the crystal is closed by a front plate having a nozzle axially located therein.Plural nozzles may be utilized to produce parallel ink streams which break into droplets at substantially the same time and at a near uniform distance from the nozzles.

摘要: There is disclosed a recording head for a jet array recorder wherein the electrical components thereof are attached to a supporting yoke and the fluidic components thereof are suspended within the yoke. The primary fluidic components are separately assembled as a manifold subassembly and suspended inside a wobble plate. The wobble plate in turn is inserted inside an inner yoke, and rides within an O-ring which provides freedom of movement for vertical adjustment and tilting. Thus the manifold subassembly, which includes an orifice plate provided with one or more rows of jet orifices, may be accurately positioned with respect to the inner yoke. In final assembly the inner yoke is mounted inside the main supporting yoke to which the electrical components have been attached and aligned. A set of dowel pins is provided to insure alignment between the inner yoke and the outer yoke. There is also disclosed means for supplying a flow of purging air through the recording head and a magnetic catcher mounting arrangement. The purging air is supplied to an air tube fitting which attaches to the manifold subassembly. In the completed assembly the air flows around the outside of the orifice plate and then exits the recording head by flowing outwardly through apertures in a charge ring plate which is fastened to the lower surface of the main yoke. The catchers are mounted below the charge ring plate by attraction to a set of permanent magnets which are set into the lower surface of the main yoke.

摘要: An ink jet nozzle structure comprising a thin tube, connected to a pressurized ink reservoir, is encircled by an A. C. driven coil which induces longitudinal reciprocating motion to cause formation of ink droplets. A permanent magnet is in the proximity of the drive coil provides a biasing action. The tube length is chosen so as to permit it to vibrate resonantly at the frequency of the induced longitudinal reciprocating motion. Resonant vibration permits the tube to be supported at two points along its length greatly increasing its mechanical stability. An air damper located near the tip of the nozzle broadens the resonant response and provides differential signals proportional to the longitudinal movement of the tube to maintain movements at a fixed or preset level.

The droplet discharging head includes: a plurality of nozzles configured to discharge a liquid as droplets; a pressure chamber defining substrate defining a pressure chamber communicating with the nozzles; a piezoelectric element including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a piezoelectric layer containing a perovskite-type composite oxide containing K, Na, and Nb as a main component; and a vibration plate forming a part of a wall surface of the pressure chamber and configured to vibrate by driving of the piezoelectric element. The number of paths n in the multi-path recording, a piezoelectric constant d31 [m/v] of the piezoelectric element, and a ratio x of a Na molar fraction to a total value of a K molar fraction and the Na molar fraction in the piezoelectric layer satisfy a relationship represented by a formula (1).

摘要: A binary array ink jet printhead assembly includes a cavity for containing ink, nozzle orifices in fluid communication with the cavity for passing the ink from the cavity to form droplets, the nozzle orifices extending along a length of the cavity, and an electrode assembly. The electrode assembly includes a front face configured to be disposed generally parallel to a plurality of droplet paths of droplets from the nozzle orifices. A plurality of charge electrodes are disposed on the front face, each charge electrode corresponding to a droplet path and disposed parallel to the droplet path. Circuitry is disposed on the electrode assembly, wherein each electrode is electrically connected to the circuitry. The circuitry is further in electrical connection to a connector for connecting the electrode assembly to a controller for the printhead.

摘要: An inkjet printhead includes two groups of interleaved nozzles. First and second sets of drop-formation waveforms are associated with the groups of nozzles to selectively cause portions of a liquid jet to break off into drops. A timing delay device time-shifts the second-group waveforms relative to those associated with the first-group waveforms. A charging-electrode waveform having portions with first and second potentials is provided to a charging electrode. The waveform energies of the second-group waveforms is larger than the waveform energies of the corresponding first-group waveforms so that printing drops break off from the liquid jets while the charging-electrode is at the first potential, and non-printing drops break off from the liquid jets while the charging-electrode is at the second potential.

A method of manufacturing an inkjet head according to an aspect of the invention may include: forming a piezoelectric actuator on a dummy substrate; cutting the piezoelectric actuator into head cell units of an inkjet head; preparing an inkjet head substrate including an ink chamber formed at a position corresponding to the piezoelectric actuator; bonding the dummy substrate and the inkjet head substrate to each other so that the piezoelectric actuator and the ink chamber correspond to each other; and removing the dummy substrate.
