The optical disc apparatus includes: a driver configured to rotate an optical disc having a recording surface for data; an optical pick-up configured to emit a light beam to the optical disc rotated by the driver; and at least one processor configured to operate the optical pick-up to focus the light beam emitted from the pick-up unit to perform one of recording and reproducing the data on the recording surface and track curvature of the recording surface within a preset allowable range, and to process the light beam reflected from the recording surface, the at least one the processor further configured to increase the allowable range if it is determined that the focus of the light beam cannot track the curvature of the recording surface in a section of the recording surface.

A shock sensor is utilized to detect shock during preloading of a magnetic head beside recording media, during loading of a magnetic head beside recording media, during pre-unloading of a magnetic head from the recording media, and/or during unloading of a magnetic head from the recording media. In an aspect, a desired pitch static attitude (PSA) and roll static attitude (RSA) of a slider is determined. In an aspect, the stability of a magnetic head is assessed and screened while on the fly and during head gimbal assembly (HGA) design and testing to improve overall data storage device reliability.

    摘要: A system including a write head, a read head, a mixer, and a filter. The write head is configured to write a pattern on a track of a medium of a hard disk drive, wherein the pattern has a first frequency. The read head is configured to read the pattern written on the track of the medium of the hard disk drive. The mixer is configured to mix a first signal generated by reading the pattern with a second signal to obtain a mixed signal. The second signal has a second frequency, and wherein the second frequency is different than the first frequency. The filter is configured to filter the mixed signal to determine a relative head-to-disk speed. The filter has a parameter selected based on a difference between the first frequency and the second frequency.

A common repeatable runout (RRO) compensation signal and a differential RRO signal are determined based on the first and second PES. A voice coil motor that drives the first and second read heads is adjusted using the common RRO compensation signal, and first and second microactuators that respectively position the first and second read heads are adjusted based on the differential RRO signal.
