摘要: A structure and method provide cables of high-temperature superconducting flat tape and/or filament wires, with a small bending diameter. A cable has a former having cross section that includes a rectangle having rounded ends (i.e. an obround), and the flat tape is wound around the surface of the former at an angle to minimize bending. The former surface may have raised helical ribs or lowered grooves to provide tape registration in multi-layer configurations. Tape may be wound from a spool onto the former under tension, and cut with a laser cutter to produce fine filaments immediately before winding. The former may be slit longitudinally to prevent loop eddy currents and reduce AC losses. The wound cable may be jacketed to provide a cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC), and coolant channels may be provided in the jacket or in the former.

摘要: A reconfigurable polarity detachable connector assembly includes a housing defining two accommodation channels and providing a springy protruding member at a top side, two mating simplex connectors respectively detachably mounted in the accommodation channels of the housing, a fiber optic cable fastened to the housing with two optical fiber cores thereof respectively inserted into respective calibration support rods of the mating simplex connectors, and a sliding cap slidably coupled to the housing. The sliding cap is unlocked and can be moved backwardly relative to the housing to expose the optical fiber cores of the fiber optic cable to the outside of the housing for allowing position exchange between the two mating simplex connectors after the user presses the springy protruding member.

摘要: An H-field electromagnetic heating system for fusion bonding, particularly useful in the sealing of telecommunications cables and closures, comprises a composite bonding material having a bonding matrix and susceptors, the susceptors being magnetically reactive at a frequency above 50 MHz, and an applicator for applying radiant electromagnetic energy to the composite bonding material, at a frequency above 50 MHz (preferably 75-500 MHz). The applicator may take the form of a quarter-wave resonator having an inner conductor and an outer conductor which at least partially surrounds the inner conductor, the two conductors being shorted at a common end. The material to be heated is placed between the conductors. The inner conductor may include a resonator tube which is capacitively coupled to the power supply by a capacitive probe connected to the center conductor of a coaxial connector. Different applicators (having different geometries) may be used with the same power supply, or a variety of heater adapters may be provided which can be removably attached to the applicator base. An alternative applicator employs many wires, electrically insulated from one another, each forming a coil with a common axis, and all of the wires being electrically connected in parallel. Several of these wires are stacked to form multiple layers of coils, such that the effective resistance of said applicator is reduced and the current-carrying capacity is increased. Individual capacitors may be connected in series with a respective one of the wire coils, to make the current in the coils more uniform for coil circumferences which are greater than 0.1 of the wavelength of the radiant electromagnetic energy.

摘要: A telecommunications conductor is produced by coating it with a visco-elastic dielectric material and then providing an electrically conductive material around the conductor by bombarding the visco-elastic material with particles of the conductor material and changing the visco-elastic material into hardened form. A shielding layer is provided by causing the particles to adhere to the surface of the dielectric material and when the particles provide a conductive path, the layer is completed by applying conductive material by electrolytical deposition or by plasma coating. Alternatively in an insulated conductor provided with a continuous inductive loading, the particles are caused to enter into and become discretely embedded within the visco-elastic material.
