    摘要: The present invention features a hoist comprising a primary extension having a circular arrangement and that is helical in shape, or that is formed in the shape of a helix having several coils or laterals. The hoist further comprises a series of supports that comprise a pre-determined length and that dictates the height or extension distance to which the primary extension can extend. The supports are also comprised of a helical shape to allow the laterals of the primary extension to travel thereon once being formed together. Essentially, the primary extension is caused to extend and collapse by rotating the supports in the appropriate direction.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for lifting blowout preventers beneath the floor of a drilling rig are provided. More than one cable is used on the drums of winches, allowing the winches to be compact enough for use on a drilling rig floor while avoiding the requirement for larger cable that would be required to achieve the high safety factors needed. The cables or wire ropes on the winches are attached to a member from which a larger diameter, higher strength intermediate cable is also attached. The intermediate cable is then attached to known apparatus such as a cradle for lifting a blowout preventer stack.

    摘要: A winch includes a cylinder containing a movable piston to which are respectively mounted a fixed and a movable pulley assembly around which a line to be pulled is entrained. The pulley assemblies are located within the working chamber and the line enters the cylinder through one end formed remote from the chamber and through a one way brake mounted to that remote end. The brake permits line to enter the cylinder as the working chamber is pressurized to move the piston and thereby the movable assembly towards the remote end. The one way brake prevents line from exiting the cylinder at this location. The line extends slidingly through the piston and may exit the cylinder at the opposite end thereof which is also equipped with a one way brake which prevents line from entering the cylinder but allows the line to exit the cylinder. End of stroke positions of the piston are sensed by means of Hall Effect Sensors to control pressurization and venting of the working chamber through a three way valve.

    摘要: A method of lifting storage tanks by using pressurized bags and support members. Lifting the tank allows for visual inspection under the tank for corrosion to prevent leakage of environmentally hazardous chemicals stored in the tank. The lifting bags are placed under the tank, inflated, and support timbers placed under the raised tank. The bags are then deflated allowing the tank to rest on the support timbers. The deflated bags are raised by placing support timbers under the bags. The bags are again pressurized further raising the tank. The steps are repeated until the tank is lifted to the desired height. Ground suction is broken by raising one side of the tank with the lifting bags, placing supports as far as possible under the tank rim and depressurizing the bags to rock the other side of the tank off the ground. A fulcrum method is also applied to use the partial weight of the tank as a leverage force to alternately raise opposite sides of the tank.

    摘要: A rack (16) extends along a support column (12) for a work platform (10) which is guided for up and down movement along the support column (12). A pair of vertically spaced apart pinion wheels (56) engage the rack (16). Each pinion wheel (56) is mounted on its own pinion wheel support (32, 34). A separate extensible-retractable hydraulic cylinder (64, 68) is interconnected between each pinion wheel support (32, 34) and a frame portion (30, 88, 90) of the work platform (10). Each pinion wheel support (32, 34) includes an extendable-retractable lock element (100) having an end portion which when the lock element (100) is extended is in locking engagement with two portions of the pinion wheel (56). In use, the lock element (100) associated with one of the pinion wheels (56) is extending into locking engagement with tooth portions of its pinion wheel (56), to in that manner prevent rotation of the pinion wheel (56) and hold it in position relative to the guide member (12). At the same time the hydraulic cylinder (64, 68) which is connected to the support (32 or 34) for the first pinion wheel (56) is extended or retracted to raise or lower the work platform (10). At the same time the lock element (100) that is associated with the second pinion wheel (56) is retracted into an unlocked position, allowing its pinion wheel (56) to rotate along the rack (16) carried by the support column (12). The second cylinder (64, 68) is moved to a starting point so that at the end of the stroke of the first cylinder (64, 68) the second lock element (100) can be advanced to lock its pinion (26) in position and the first lock element (100) can be retracted to free its pinion wheel (26) for rotation along the rack (16), and the second cylinder (64, 68) can be operated to advance the work platform (10) and the first cylinder (64, 68) can be operated to return it to a start position.

The system comprises a gimbaled platform, supported over a central well through a vessel by two horizontal axes perpendicular to each other. Pipe string support plates are movably secured to facing surfaces on the carriage and platform, arranged about central openings, to permit close-coupling of the two sets of support plates when transferring the pipe string.     摘要: A lifting jack has its upward and downward traveling distance controlled by means of a limit switch. The lifting jack has a base, an upright outer member rigidly connected to the base and an upright inner member movable coaxially within the outer member. An up stop and an adjustable down stop are rigidly attached to and move with the inner member. An adjustable mount is mounted in a fixed position on the outer member, and the limit switch is mounted in fixed position on the mount. A guide shoe assembly is pivotally connected to the mount and is oriented generally perpendicular to the direction of travel of the inner member. A stop engaging member at one end of the guide is positioned to engage the up stop and the down stop, and an arm guiding portion at the opposite end engages and guides an actuating arm of the limit switch. In operation, the guide (and therefore the actuating arm of the limit switch) is biased by garter springs which hold it in a normal position riding on the inner member which is generally perpendicular to the direction of travel of the inner member of the jack. When the stop engaging member engages the down stop, the stop engaging member moves downward and the arm guiding portion and the actuating arm move upward, thereby causing the limit switch to change from its normal state. Similarly, when the stop engaging member engages the up stop, it moves upward and the arm guiding portion and the arm move downward to cause a change in the state of the limit switch.

    摘要: A gripping assembly for moving drilling rigs on offshore drilling platforms in which the drilling rigs are supported on a plurality of skid bases. The gripper assembly rests on the skid bases and provides means for selectively gripping the skid base when a drilling rig is to be moved. The gripper assembly has a platform supported by end plates resting on the skid base flanges and is connected to the drilling rig by a hydraulic jack cylinder which moves or slides the drilling rig on the skid bases in a stepwise fashion. Traversing the platform is a cross-member pivotally supporting gripper arms for applying a clamping force to the skid base. The gripper assembly is clamped on the skid base by means of a clamping hydraulic cylinder to apply a force on flanges on the gripper arms, while the hydraulic jack cylinder is operated to push or pull the drilling rig a distance equal to the extension distance of the hydraulic jack cylinder stroke.
