    Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for retrieving an information file from a user profile about a scheduled trip, where access to content may be restricted and identifying, based on the consumption pattern, a first progression point before the scheduled start time and a second progression point after the scheduled end time of the scheduled trip. Based on the difference between the first and second progression points, the media guidance application causes to be stored the respective media assets on a consumption device. Then before departing for the scheduled trip, the media guidance application confirms the first progression points against the current progression point and causes to adjust the stored media assets based on a difference between the current progression point and the first progression point.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are described for operating a group watching session. Group communication is initiated for a group watching session displaying a media content item. A bandwidth available to at least one computing device participating in the group watching session is determined. A group communication mode for a segment of the media content item is determined. A communication parameter of the group communication and/or a buffering parameter for the media content item is set in response to determining the group communication mode for the segment of the media content item and the bandwidth available to each computing device participating in the group watching session.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining transition scenes in content and playing back transition scenes as overlays over one or more adjacent scenes. Transition scenes (also referred to as “pause scenes”) are slow-moving scenes, with minimal activity or characters, usually surrounded by two faster paced scenes, that may bore certain viewers such as children or mobile device users. The system may help the content move faster, while ensuring the transition scenes are not skipped. The system may receive content with three sequential scenes A, B, and C, and determine scene B is a transition scene between scene A and scene C. Scene B may be generated as an overlay to one of (or parts of both) scene A and scene C so that all three scenes are viewed but the runtime is shorter, and the content's pace is maintained. The system may also determine which scene to overlay, and determine a screen position for the overlay so as not to, e.g., obscure any characters or activity in the content.

    Abstract: The system and methods described herein determine whether to override commands to modify content presentation in a multi-user content consumption environment. A media guidance application detects a first and second user consuming content. Upon receiving a command from the first user to modify the presentation of the content, the media guidance application retrieves a user profile of the second user and compares attributes in the user profile to metadata for the segment of the content. Based on the comparison, the media guidance application determines whether to override the command, for example based on a predicted interest level or importance level determined by the comparison. In response to determining to override the command, the media guidance application refrains from executing the command by canceling or delaying the command and generates a notification message to the user with a reason why the command was overridden.
