Abstract: A panicle catcher for capturing entrained particles in a fluid is disclosed. The particle catcher can include an enclosure defining a flow channel between an inlet and an outlet. Trapping means may be incorporated into the particle catcher. Where provided, the trapping means can be arranged at or near the inlet to allow fluid comprising entrained particles to enter the flow channel through the inlet and to substantially prevent the fluid comprising entrained particles from exiting the flow channel through the inlet. Filtering means may also be incorporated into the particle catcher. Where provided, the filtering means can be arranged at or near the outlet to keep at least some a part of the entrained particles from exiting the flow channel through the outlet.

Abstract: An air filter cartridge for filtering liquids, such as fuel or oil, can be used in a filter assembly. The air filter cartridge has first and second opposite end caps and filter media extending between the end caps. The first end cap has an air channel with an inlet and an outlet to allow for the bleeding of air from the unfiltered side to the filtered side, while minimizing the amount of liquid allowed to bypass the media. Due to the viscosity differences of air versus liquid (e.g. a hydrocarbon such as fuel or oil), a long vent with at least one thin axis impedes liquid flow to a greater degree than air flow through the same vent.

Abstract: A precleaner arrangement for separating a portion of entrained material from air flow air entering an engine air cleaner. The precleaner arrangement includes a precleaner housing and at least a first flexible air deflection vane with a fixed portion secured to the precleaner housing and a deflectable portion. The deflectable portion includes a curved section extending from the fixed portion and a tail section extending from the curved section. The deflectable portion is configured to deflect in response to a sufficient air flow rate change through the precleaner arrangement, in use. Some arrangements will also include a second stage, outlet vane assembly.

Abstract: A filtration media with improved filtration, strength, tear resistance and air permeability in the form of a relatively thin and lightweight wet-laid fibrous web that has a wet Mullen ratio of 60% to 80% to ensure that the media is flexible enough to be formed into a fluted structure, and strong enough to retain the fluted structure when wound into a roll and to permit further processing without the media becoming too brittle. The filtration media comprises a blend of cellulose and synthetic fibers having a weight percent of 81 wt % to 87 wt % of a weight of the media and a resin binder having a weight of 13 wt % to 19 wt % (preferably about 16 wt %) of the weight of the media.

Abstract: The technology disclosed herein relates to filter assemblies and methods of making filter assemblies. One filter assembly has a first sheet of filter media having a first perimeter region and a second sheet of filter media having a second perimeter region. The first perimeter region and the second perimeter region are bonded in a rim region. A plurality of adsorbent beads are disposed between the first sheet of filter media and the second sheet of filter media, and a substantial portion of the plurality of adsorbent beads are unbonded. Other embodiments are also described.
