Abstract:
A network system and method include a wireless base station integrated at a central office of a service provider. The wireless base station is configured to provide portable and fixed services to customers. A passive optical network is coupled to the wireless base station at the central office to provide a link to extend an antenna for wireless operations of the wireless base station to a remote site such that a wireless signal from the wireless base station is transmitted in parallel with a passive fiber network signal through the link.
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a first laser source for providing a first lightwave; a first optical coupler that is polarization maintaining for dividing the first lightwave into first and second optical carrier lightwaves; first and second modulators for modulating respective ones of the first and second carrier lightwaves with information; a polarization beam combiner for combining the modulated first and second carrier lightwaves which generates a polarization multiplexing optical signal; second and third lasers for providing second and third lightwaves whose wavelengths are one of both longer than that of the first lightwave and shorter than that of the first lightwave, a second optical coupler that is polarization maintaining for combining the second and third lightwaves; and a third optical coupler for combining the modulated first and second carrier lightwaves from the polarization beam combiner and the combined second and third lightwaves out of the second optical coupler for transmission over an optical medium.
Abstract:
The invention is a method directed to group MMSE-DFD with rate (SINR) feedback and without pre-determined decoding order for reception on a cellular downlink. The method includes initializing channel matrix estimates and inner codes of all co-channel transmitter sources in a wireless network. Each channel matrix estimate is converted into an effective channel matrix responsive to the inner code of the corresponding transmitter source; The channel estimates or the inner codes or the modulation and coding schemes are not known for some of the transmitter sources whose transmitted signals are consequently treated as interference and deemed un-decodable.

A method includes receiving non-elastic traffic into a cellular network serving users; varying long-term dissatisfaction of the users with dynamic resource allocations during traffic overload of the cellular network, the long term dissatisfaction being measured by at least one of a function of number of times a user from the users receives bad quality of service and a level of deterioration of quality of service to the user; and influencing number of satisfied users of the cellular network responsive to the varying of long-term dissatisfaction.
Abstract:
A method for measuring structural entropy of cell nuclei in a histological micrograph of a biopsy tissue sample involves the steps of: obtaining a dye color map from a color image of the biopsy tissue sample; locating cell nuclei in the dye color map; and measuring structural features within small groups (cliques or paths) of cell nuclei to determine their degree of organization (or structural entropy). Also, an apparatus for measuring structural entropy of cell nuclei in a histological micrograph of a biopsy tissue sample includes a processor executing instructions for: obtaining a dye color map of the biopsy tissue sample; locating cell nuclei in the dye color map; and measuring structural features within small groups (cliques or paths) of cell nuclei to determine their degree of organization (or structural entropy).
Abstract:
A new machine learning technique is herein disclosed which generalizes the support vector machine framework. A separating hyperplane in a separating space is optimized in accordance with generalized constraints which dependent upon the clustering of the input vectors in the dataset.
Abstract:
A fiber optic network transmits data between a hub node and a plurality of local nodes connected by at least one unidirectional fiber ring. Downstream data streams are carried on wavelength-division-multiplexed optical carriers from the hub node to the local nodes. An optical carrier corresponding to a specific wavelength carries downstream data streams to a specific local node. Downstream data streams are multiplexed onto an optical carrier via orthogonal frequency division multiplexing. A parallel signal detector in each local node detects all downstream optical carriers. A signal processing module demultiplexes the data stream from the optical carrier having the specific wavelength corresponding to the local node. An upstream data stream is multiplexed via orthogonal frequency division multiplexing onto an upstream optical carrier having the same specific wavelength and transmitted from the local node to the hub node. Upstream data awaiting transmission is allocated to specific subcarriers and time slots.

A method for wireless multicasting with beamforming includes dividing single lobe beam patterns into groups, each group being a composite beam pattern, the dividing being according to one of an equal power partition configuration and an asymmetric power partition configuration; and transmitting the information with the composite beam pattern.
