Abstract: A method for controlling handover of a user equipment device (UE) between (i) a first cell site that provides dual-connectivity service on a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT and (ii) a second cell site that provides standalone first-RAT service, wherein the handover includes transitioning the UE from source first-RAT service to target first-RAT service. The method includes setting a handover threshold to use as a basis to evaluate whether target first-RAT coverage detected by the UE is sufficiently stronger than source first-RAT coverage detected by the UE, where setting the handover threshold includes setting the handover threshold to a value selected based on whether the UE has detected that second-RAT coverage of the first cell site meets a defined threshold measurement threshold. Further, the method includes applying the set handover threshold as a basis to control whether to invoke the handover of the UE.

Abstract: Methods and systems disclosed herein can help to dynamically adjust the degree of or enable/disable concatenation of page messages, depending upon whether a user equipment is operating as a single radio LTE (SRLTE) device. An exemplary method involves a radio access network: (i) determining that a UE is configured to use a single radio system for both (a) data communication under a first air interface protocol, and (b) voice calls under a second air interface protocol that is different from the first air interface protocol, (ii) based at least in part on the determination, selecting a page-concatenation level to be used to page the first UE, and (iii) transmitting at least on page message to the UE according to the selected page-concatenation level.

Abstract: A method and corresponding system for configuring an eNodeB for improved circuit-switched-fallback (CSFB) service. The method includes detecting that, during past CSFB call setup for UEs served by the eNodeB, UEs reported as a strongest fallback coverage area a fallback coverage area that is not included in the eNodeB's CSFB-candidate data. And the method includes responsively (i) determining, based on location information and based on an identifier of the reported fallback coverage area, a node of the fallback network that the eNodeB's network can contact to facilitate CSFB call setup in the reported fallback coverage area, and (ii) adding to the CSFB-candidate data a record of the reported coverage area in association with a node identifier of the determined node, the added record being thereafter useable by the eNodeB to facilitate CSFB call setup in the reported fallback coverage area for a UE served by the eNodeB.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems that can help to determine a maximum size of the cooperating set of cells, which coordinate to provide a user equipment (UE) with coordinated multipoint (CoMP) service. An exemplary method involves: (a) determining, from a plurality of possible communication types, a communication type of a communication associated with a first UE; (b) using the determined communication type as a basis for determining a maximum size for a CoMP cooperating set for the UE, wherein the cooperating set specifies one or more cells to provide CoMP service to the UE; and (c) selecting one or more cells to include in the CoMP cooperating set for the UE, wherein a total number of cells selected is less than or equal to the determined maximum size.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for selecting a target base station for handover of a wireless communication device, where the selecting is based at least in part on a consideration of the target base station's typical control-plane signaling latency in a core network, and particularly based on a comparison of control-plane signaling duration of multiple candidate target base stations. For instance, where all of the base stations are configured to engage in a particular control-plane signaling transaction from time to time, at issue could be which of the candidate target base stations typically engages in that control-plane signaling transaction the quickest.

Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling service by a base station when the base station is serving both a first UE without carrier aggregation and a plurality of second UEs with carrier aggregation. As a basis for invoking carrier aggregation service for the first UE, the base station selects one of the second UEs to transition from being served by the base station with carrier aggregation to being served by the base station without carrier aggregation. The base station makes such a selection based at least in part on a modulation and coding scheme that the base station uses to serve the selected one of the second UEs. The base station transitions from serving the selected second UE with carrier aggregation to serving the selected second UE without carrier aggregation. And the base station transitions from serving the first UE without carrier aggregation to serving the first UE with carrier aggregation.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for prioritizing uplink grants to mobile devices based on group delay variation considerations. A base station may receive (i) a first random access channel (RAC) request from a first user equipment device (UE) assigned to operate in a first frequency band of a wireless communication network and (ii) a second RAC request from a second UE assigned to operate in a different, second frequency band of the wireless communication network, both request being for uplink communications. Upon determining that the first frequency band is more susceptible to group delay variation based impairments than the second frequency band, the base station prioritizes an uplink channel grant of the first RAC request over an uplink channel grant of the second RAC request.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for offset decoding of resource elements in a resource block to compensate for propagation delay in uplink coordinated multipoint service. A determination may be made that the initial data symbol of a time-ordered sequence of N data symbols transmitted by a user equipment device (UE) to a base station (BS) will be received at an arrival time beyond an initial one of N equally-spaced tolerance windows for simultaneous decoding of data symbols received from UEs. If it is determined that the arrival time will be within a subsequent one of the N equally-spaced tolerance windows, then the BS may receive and decode those of the N data symbols with respective arrival times in one of the subsequent tolerance windows. Otherwise, the BS may refrain from decoding any of the N data symbols. The decode data symbols may be merged with those from another BS.
