Abstract: A method and system to help control CoMP service in a V-RAN arrangement. The load on a cell site's fronthaul network interface between the cell site's RRH and the cell site's BBU is determined. And in response to detecting that the fronthaul load is threshold high, a limit will be imposed on application of CoMP service involving the cell site. For example, in response to detecting that the cell site's fronthaul network interface is threshold highly loaded, (i) the cell site could be made to use decentralized joint processing rather than centralized joint processing, (ii) a lower coverage strength threshold could be imposed as a basis to trigger CoMP service involving the cell site, and/or (iii) the quantity of uplink communication that is subject to CoMP service involving the cell site could be limited.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for selectively muting default downlink transmission of particular reference signals in order to reduce interference experienced by user equipment devices (UEs) receiving user data. In scheduling transmission of a downlink resource block (RB), a base station may select a particular transmission mode (TM) that does not require transmission of the particular reference signal. The base station may also determine that no condition exists that requires default transmission of the particular reference signal during a time interval allocated for transmission of the RB and on sub-carrier frequencies allocated to the RB. With particular TM selected and the absence of other requirements for default transmission of the particular reference signal, the base station can then mute transmission of the particular reference signal during transmission of the downlink RB. The base station may also coordinate scheduling with a neighboring base station to achieve further interference reduction.

Abstract: A mechanism for controlling secondary-coverage scanning for configuring dual-connectivity. A computing system establishes for a primary access node a scan list of secondary cells based on the primary access node having an X2 interface for each secondary cell and having received a threshold extent of B1 measurement reporting indicating threshold strong coverage of the secondary cell for configuration of dual-connectivity. Further, the computing system establishes for each secondary cell of the scan list a respective B1 measurement threshold based on evaluation of performance history of the secondary cell such as based on extent of secondary-access-node-addition failures involving the secondary cell and/or based on communication-quality metrics such as error rate or retransmission rate. The computing system then configures the primary access node to provide a B1 measurement object conveying the scan list with measurement thresholds.

Abstract: A cell site that has multiple first-RAT carriers will monitor a capacity demand respectively of each first-RAT carrier, with capacity demand representing an extent to which adding more service capacity could be useful in view of the state of service on the 4G carrier. Further, the cell site will dynamically allocate resources of a second-RAT carrier for use in dual-connectivity service of UEs served on various ones of the first-RAT carriers, with the allocation being based on the capacity demands of the various primary-RAT carriers. For instance, if a first first-RAT carrier has a higher capacity demand than a second first-RAT carrier, then the cell site could allocate a more resources of the secondary-RAT carrier for use in dual-connectivity service of UEs served on the first first-RAT carrier than for use in dual-connectivity service of UEs served on the second first-RAT carrier.

Abstract: A method for controlling handover of a user equipment device (UE) between (i) a first cell site that provides dual-connectivity service on a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT and (ii) a second cell site that provides standalone first-RAT service, wherein the handover includes transitioning the UE from source first-RAT service to target first-RAT service. The method includes setting a handover threshold to use as a basis to evaluate whether target first-RAT coverage detected by the UE is sufficiently stronger than source first-RAT coverage detected by the UE, where setting the handover threshold includes setting the handover threshold to a value selected based on whether the UE has detected that second-RAT coverage of the first cell site meets a defined threshold measurement threshold. Further, the method includes applying the set handover threshold as a basis to control whether to invoke the handover of the UE.

Abstract: A method and system for a base station (BS) configured for sharing among a plurality of public land mobile networks (PLMNs), and for providing open radio access and/or closed subscriber group (CSG) radio access for user equipment devices (UEs) served. The BS may make a determination of which PLMNs have enabled CSG and which have not, and may transmit a request to a core network of each PLMN to set up an interface connection with each. Based on the determination, the request may either include information for configuring CSG radio access, or information for configuring only open radio access. For each PLMN having CSG enabled, the interface connection may be established for CSG radio access for UEs associated with PLMNs having CSG enabled. For each PLMN not having CSG enabled, the interface connection may be established for only open radio access for UEs associated with PLMNs without CSG enabled.

Abstract: A base station may use another base station's carrier-aggregation policy for a cell and carrier-aggregation capability information for a UE as a basis to control handover of the UE from the base station to the other base station. As one example, a first base station may receive, from a UE, a report that the UE has detected coverage of a target cell. The target cell may be provided by a second base station, and the first base station may determine whether the target cell can be aggregated with one or more other cells and whether the UE supports carrier aggregation. The first base station may then select a handover threshold based on the determination, and use the selected handover threshold as a basis to control handover of the UE from being served by the first base station to being served by the second base station.

Abstract: In an wireless communication system, base stations will be set to prioritize serving one type of user equipment device (UE) over another type of UE, and each base station's respective prioritization will be conveyed to UEs to facilitate base station selection. That way, when a UE faces a choice of whether to connect with one base station or another, the UE could determine which base station gives higher priority to the UE's type and could connect with that base station, even if the UE detects stronger coverage of the other base station. And if the UE finds itself in coverage of a base station that gives lower priority to the UE's type than to another UE type, the UE could still connect with that base station unless the UE finds another base station that gives higher priority to the UE's type.

Abstract: A mechanism for controlling a measurement threshold used for triggering transition of a user equipment device (UE) from being connected with a first access node on a first carrier to being connected with the first access node instead on a second carrier. Abstract: When a base station groups a given user equipment device (UE) together with one or more other UEs for multi-user multiple-input-multiple-output (MU-MIMO) service, the base station will predict a level of RF correlation between the given UE and the one or more other UEs of the group (e.g., based angular separation between beam direction of the UE and beam direction of each of the one or more other UEs). And the base station will use that predicted level of RF correlation as a basis to adjust a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) that the base station and the given UE will use for data communication with each other, so as to help improve data communication between the base station and the given UE in the presence of the predicted RF correlation.
