Abstract: Resources of multiple systems are managed in a computer device. A first processing system having a set of dedicated resources also has a resource manager to manage at least one of the resources. The first processing system is prevented from directly accessing the resources without authorization. A second processing system, connected to the set of dedicated resources, has a supervisor application to grant control to individual resources to the resource manager of the first processing system. A computer program is executed in the first processing system. The supervisor application grants control of at least one resource to the resource manager of the first processing system in a way that is transparently to the computer program executing in the first processing system.

Abstract: A charge sensing circuit generates a voltage in a sensing period that is indicative of sensed charge. The generated voltages are accumulated by an accumulator circuit over a number of sensing periods. A noise detection circuit senses when the voltage generated by the charge sensing circuit is outside of a boundary and generates a detection signal in response thereto. A control circuit, in response to the detection signal, controls the accumulator circuit to block accumulation of the voltages generated by the charge sensing circuit during at least the sensing period in which the detection signal is generated. An analog-to-digital converter circuit then converts an accumulated output voltage from the accumulator circuit to a digital value at the end of an accumulation time period that includes the sensing periods. The end of the accumulation time period is delayed by at least one sensing period in response to the detection signal.

Abstract: Groove analysis in a device having a tactile input surface suited to detect more than one tactile input at a time. Using groove analysis allows a touch screen device a more robust and efficient algorithm for distinguishing between two different tactile inputs. The touch screen device may include a touch screen controller that includes an analysis circuit for determining grooves between touch inputs. Generally, when a touch input is received at the surface of a touch screen device, the touch screen may register touch strength signals at each of a plurality of touch regions. A groove may be generally defined as a touch region that exhibits a touch strength signal that is less than surrounding touch regions. Once all touch regions are analyzed by a groove analysis, various touch regions determined to grooves may be eliminated from a further analysis to determine the XY coordinates of actual touch inputs.

Abstract: A circuit described herein includes a charge to voltage converter circuit having an input coupled to receive a sense signal from a sense node associated with a mutual capacitance to be sensed, and an output. A reset switch is coupled between the output of the charge to voltage converter circuit and the input of the charge to voltage converter. An accumulator circuit is configured to accumulate voltages at the output of the charge to voltage converter circuit and to generate an accumulator output signal. Control circuitry is configured to generate control signals for the reset switch and accumulator circuit so as to reduce noise in the accumulator output signal.

Abstract: An alternating current (AC) drive signal having a first frequency and a high logic level at a boosted supply voltage is applied to drive a capacitive sensing line of a capacitive touch panel. The boosted supply voltage is generated by boosting an input voltage. The voltage boosting is effectuate by a charge pump circuit operating synchronous to assertion of the AC drive signal with a charge transfer time that is adaptable to different capacitive load conditions.

Abstract: A method of foreign matter rejection for multi-touch capacitive touch screens includes performing touch detection in both self-capacitance mode and mutual capacitance mode. By combining information from both modes, a distinction is identified between wanted touches, such as by a finger or stylus, and unwanted touches such as by foreign matter.

Abstract: A system and method for compensating for detected phase errors during communications between synchronized devices. In an embodiment, the two devices may be a touch screen device and a synchronized stylus device. To this end, the touch screen device includes a controller configured to receive data signals from the stylus at specific time intervals. The touch screen device generates an internal control signal for receiving the incoming data signals at an expected frequency. The touch screen device further includes circuitry for measuring differences in the time a data signal is actually received against when the data signal was expected to be received and determines a time difference (e.g., a phase error). Then, the internal control signal may be adjusted to compensate for the accumulated phase error. Such a measurement and compensation helps ensure that communications remain in synchronization without having to reestablish synchronization through a cumbersome synchronization process.

Abstract: An active stylus is capacitively coupled to a capacitive touch panel for communication. The active stylus operates in a wait mode to receive initial communications from the panel. In response to such receipt, the active stylus synchronizes to a repeating communications frame implementing time division multiplexing. Communications from the active stylus to the panel include: information communications; synchronization communications and communications specific for columns and/or rows of the panel. Communications from the panel to the active stylus may be addressed uniquely to the stylus or commonly to a group of styluses.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a capacitive sensing structure for detecting a force touch in a touchscreen application. Performance uniformity of the force touch sensor is improved by providing a capacitive force touch structure having sensing electrodes of varying thickness, wherein the variation in electrode thickness corresponds to a relative displacement potential of portions of the sensing electrode. This variation in thickness improves performance uniformity of the force sensor by compensating for the displacement potential (i.e., flexibility) of the sensing electrodes so that a force touch applied to the touch surface is measured consistently regardless of the location of the force touch on the touch surface.
