Abstract: The present disclosure includes a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system having a control system suitable to control operation of a device in the HVAC system. The control system may include a zone control panel that may maintain an instance of each schedule used by one or more devices in the HVAC system to operate. Further, the zone control panel may include a set of one or more status flags, which may each indicate whether data associated with a respective flag is available to be retrieved. Accordingly, the zone control panel may communicate information, such as an update to a schedule, rapidly between devices in the HVAC system.

Abstract: The present disclosure presents techniques for improving operational efficiency of climate control systems. A climate control system may include climate control equipment, a sensor that measures temperature in a building, and a control system that controls operation of the equipment using a first temperature schedule, which associates each time step with a temperature setpoint, when the building is occupied. When not occupied, the control system determines an expected return time based on historical occupancy data associated with the building, determines the temperature setpoint associated with the expected return time, determines candidate schedules each expected to result in the inside air temperature meeting the temperature setpoint, determines efficiency metrics each associated with one of the candidates based on historical performance data resulting from previous operation of the climate control system, and controls operation of the equipment based on a second temperature schedule selected from the candidates based on associated efficiency metrics.

Abstract: A control system for a heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system includes control circuitry having a storage device and a microcontroller. The storage device is configured to store faults. The microcontroller is configured to monitor for a condition of the HVAC system associated with a fault, store a fault in the storage device when the condition is detected, identify whether a duration of time that the fault has been stored in the storage device exceeds a threshold time period, and clear the fault from the storage device when the duration exceeds the threshold time period.

Abstract: The present disclosure includes a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system having a control system suitable to control operation of a device in the HVAC system. The control system may include a zone control panel that may control operation of the device using power-line communication. Accordingly, the zone control panel and the device may be both communicatively and electrically coupled via one or more power lines. To that end, the zone control panel may determine a primary address identifying the device and/or a secondary address indicating the one or more power lines electrically coupled to the device. Further, the zone control panel may communicate with and/or coordinate operation of the device by transmitting data messages to the device via the one or more power lines based on the primary address and/or the secondary address.

Abstract: The techniques described herein provide systems and methods for controlling climate characteristics in a building. The control system of a climate management system may calculate a default airflow rate for each zone in the building based on a minimum permitted airflow rate of climate control equipment, a maximum permitted airflow rate of the climate control equipment, and the number of zones serviced by the climate control equipment. The control system may also adjust the default airflow rate for a zone to a customized airflow rate based on a user input. The control system may adjust the default airflow rate to the customized airflow rate if the customized airflow rate is greater than or equal to the minimum permitted airflow rate. The control system may adjust the default airflow rate to the minimum permitted airflow rate if the customized airflow rate is less than the minimum permitted airflow rate.

Abstract: An actuator controls the operation of a valve member to achieve desired flow or no-flow states through different inlet ports of the valve in response to different types of input signals from one or more input sources. In some embodiments, the actuator drives the valve member along a first portion of a travel path to regulate flow through a first inlet port using analog or binary input signal(s) from a first input source, and drives the valve member along a second portion of the travel path to regulate flow through a second inlet port using analog or binary input signal(s) from a second input source. In some embodiments the actuator drives the valve member along the entire travel path to regulate flow through each of the first inlet port and the second inlet port responsive to an analog input signal from a single input source.

Abstract: A controller is configured to obtain a cost function defining a cost of operating building equipment over a time period. The cost function includes a revenue term defining revenue to be obtained by operating the equipment to participate in an incentive program over the time period. The controller is configured to modify the cost function to account for an initial purchase cost of a new asset to be added to the equipment and an effect of the new asset on the cost of operating the equipment. The initial purchase cost of the new asset and the effect of the new asset on the cost of operating the equipment are functions of asset size variables. The controller is also configured to perform an optimization of the modified cost function to determine values for energy load setpoints, the asset size variables, and participation in the incentive program over the time period.

Abstract: A building management system includes HVAC equipment operable to affect an indoor air temperature of a building, a system manager configured to obtain a cost function that characterizes a cost of operating the HVAC equipment, obtain a dataset relating to the building, determine a current state of the building by applying the dataset to a neural network, select a temperature bound associated with the current state, augment the cost function to include a penalty term that increases the cost when the indoor air temperature violates the temperature bound, and determine a temperature setpoint for each of a plurality of time steps in the future time period. The temperature setpoints achieve a target value of the cost function over the future time period. The building management system also includes a controller configured to operate the HVAC equipment to drive the indoor air temperature towards the temperature setpoint.
