Abstract: Disclosed are exemplary embodiments of methods for managing temperature overshoot. In an exemplary embodiment, a method includes determining a temperature delta between two sensor temperatures reported for a space at predetermined time intervals; determining a temperature rate of change by dividing the temperature delta with a time period that elapsed between the two sensor temperatures; determining a compensation by multiplying the temperature delta and the temperature rate of change; determining a compensated temperature by adding the compensation to a sensor temperature reported for the space; and using a controller and the compensated temperature to control operation of a heating system for the space.

Abstract: A method of operating a HVAC system is provided. The method includes transferring heat between airflow and a heating element in the duct system. The heating element is configured to receive a fuel and ignite the fuel to heat the heating element. The method includes measuring a change in at least one gas property value of the airflow in the duct system using a leak detection sensor, where the change in the at least one gas property value is indicative of a gas leaked into the duct system. The method includes determining a concentration of the leaked gas based at least in part upon the change in the at least one gas property value and determining that the concentration as measured by the leak detection sensor has a negative value, where the negative value is indicative of the leaked gas comprising fuel.

Abstract: A system and method to control environmental parameters of predefined zones within a structure. An embodiment of the system uses damper assemblies that are entirely wireless as a result of energy capturing devices which convert air flow within the HVAC system ductwork into electrical current and a wireless control module that remove the need for hard-wiring for power or control. Still further, an embodiment of the system uses wireless components to monitor the environmental parameters of a structure's zones, process and communicate necessary zone adjustments, and actuate system components.

Abstract: Controlling heating and cooling in a conditioned space utilizes a fluid circulating in a thermally conductive structure in fluid connection with a hydronic-to-air heat exchanger and a ground heat exchanger. Air is moved past the hydronic-to-air heat exchanger, the air having fresh air supply and stale air exhaust. Sensors located throughout the conditioned space send data to a controller. User input to the controller sets the desired set point temperature and humidity. Based upon the set point temperature and humidity and sensor data, the controller sends signals to various devices to manipulate the flow of the fluid and the air in order to achieve the desired set point temperature and humidity in the conditioned space. The temperature of the fluid is kept less than the dew point at the hydronic-to-air heat exchanger and the temperature of the fluid is kept greater than the dew point at the thermally conductive structure.

Abstract: An apparatus and method to selectively create a heat transfer effect and sensation of cooling within bedding on a mattress. A programmable application is accessible on a wireless network and is programmed to provide appropriate settings to attain changes over time of a space within bedding that pertain to at least one of heating the space and realizing a cooling sensation within the space. A wireless receiver is configured to receive commands in a wireless manner that are indicative of the appropriate settings provided by the programmable application to effect changes over time of the space within the bedding attributed to heat transfer with respect to the at least one of heating the space and realizing a cooling sensation within the space. The heat transfer occurs as a result of fluid flow either within a mattress or within space in bedding over the mattress.
