Abstract: A conveyor with zigzag travel is formed by two continuous conveyor belts and is particularly useful for processing materials. Each belt has openings along its marginal portions and a set of driven belt sprockets meshing with those openings. Part of the length of each belt is maintained in parallel, spaced relation to part of the length of the other and together form a zigzag path with one or more U-turns. At each U-turn, one belt turns on sprockets and the other turns with its marginal portions sliding around curved guides. The remaining parts of the lengths of both belts are separated from one another and provide places for feeding material to, and removing it from, the conveyor.

Abstract: A sorting switch comprising a plurality of pallet support members mounted for movement around a course including an upper article sorting portion comprising spaced, parallel article conveying paths. Pallets are slidably supported on the pallet support members and have switch engaging members depending therefrom. Switching mechanisms are provided for selectively allowing each pallet to remain aligned with the article conveying path normal thereto or for diverting the pallet into alignment with the opposite article conveying path. The pallets are alternately arranged with each pallet that is normally aligned with one of the article sorting paths being followed by a pallet that is normally aligned with the other article sorting path, and vice versa.

Abstract: A link component is adapted for interfitment with like link components to form a flexible chain free of hinge pins and cooperable with a drive sprocket. Abstract: Apparatus is provided for automatically electrically stunning animals to be slaughtered. The apparatus includes two V-shaped restrainers, where the second restrainer runs faster than the first restrainer to automatically space the animals apart. A pair of electrodes which are adapted to extend downwardly into the second V-shaped restrainer, are disclosed. The electrodes are specially shaped and are preferably adapted to transversely engage the head of the animal to be stunned. The electrodes are pivotally suspended from a reciprocating frame which is provided to move with the restrainer carrying an animal during the period that stunning is taking place, in order to maintain contact between the animal and the electrodes during the period of stunning.
