Abstract:
An end cap for a bearing assembly including a first body section being substantially symmetric about a central axis of the end cap and having a first seating surface defining an opening extending through the first body section coaxially with the central axis. The end cap includes a second body section extending away from the first seating surface and terminating at a second seating surface. The opening is operable to receive a portion of an inner member of the bearing assembly. The first seating surface is operable to engage a portion of the inner member and the second seating surface is operable to slidingly engage a portion of an outer ring which is disposed around a portion of the inner member.
Abstract:
A self-lubricating bearing assembly for a hinge of a turbine engine nozzle is described. The hinge includes a bolt and a bell crank housing. The bearing assembly includes a sleeve, a pair of bushings, liners, a thrust washer and a nut. The sleeve includes a tubular and a shoulder portion. Each bushing has an inner and an outer diameter. The liners include first liners, each bonded to the inner diameter of a respective one of the bushings, a second liner disposed between the shoulder portion and a bushing, and a third liner disposed between the thrust washer and a bushing. When assembled, the tubular portion is disposed over an outer diameter of the bolt, the outer diameters of the bushings are disposed within an inner diameter of the bell crank housing, and the nut is affixed between the thrust washer and the bolt to secure the hinge assembly.
Abstract:
A ball bearing for a cryogenic application including an inner ring and an outer ring positioned around the inner ring. The inner ring and the outer ring define a raceway therebetween. The ball bearing includes a plurality of rolling balls disposed in the raceway and a slug separator positioned between and slidingly engaging each of adjacent pairs the rolling balls. The slug separator defines an exterior surface thereon, which has a recess extending at least partially into the slug separator. The recess is configured to flow cryogenic fluid therethrough.
Abstract:
A seal for a bearing has a first and a second circumference, and an anchor portion proximate to the first circumference. A span portion extends from the anchor portion towards the second circumference, and a lip extends from the span portion towards the second circumference. The lip protrudes from the span portion transversely to the span direction. A bearing and seal assembly includes a first ring and a second ring in rotatable engagement with the first ring. The first ring defines a groove and the second ring defines a contact surface. The seal is mounted in the groove, the span portion extending from the anchor portion towards the second ring, and the lip extending from the span portion towards the second ring, engaging the contact surface. The bearing and seal assembly may be used as a pitch bearing and/or a yaw bearing in a wind turbine.
Abstract:
A plain bearing has two components, each having a bearing surface; the bearing surfaces being in sliding engagement with each other. The bearing may be a spherical plain bearing having an outer ring that has a concave bearing surface and an inner ring that has a convex bearing surface. One of the bearing surfaces comprises a layer comprising tungsten carbide. One component may have spaced-apart seating surfaces for engaging a moving structure and a generally concave interior that includes an internal rib between the seating surfaces. A spherical plain bearing can be made by providing an outer ring and an inner ring includes an internal rib, and disposing the outer ring around the inner ring with the convex bearing surface engaging the concave bearing surface. The bearing may be used in a swashplate assembly.
Abstract:
A spherical bearing including a ball having an external surface defined by an outside diameter of said ball and an outer race having an inside surface contoured to a shape defined by said external surface of the ball. The inside surface extends between a stud end and a cover end of the outer race. The ball is moveably positioned within the outer race such that the inside surface and the external surface slidably engage one another. The inside surface includes at least one lubrication groove formed therein. The lubrication groove initiates at a first position adjacent to the cover end and terminates at a second position adjacent to the cover end. Remaining portions of the lubrication groove are spaced apart from the stud end.
Abstract:
A shaft for a rocker arm assembly is disclosed. The shaft includes a substantially cylindrical outer surface at least a portion of which defines a bearing surface thereon and an interior core portion located radially inward of the bearing surface. The bearing surface has a hardness greater than that of the core portion, for providing wear resistance and deterring crack initiation and propagation.
Abstract:
A spherical plain bearing having dual sealing capability includes an outer race bearing member having an outer ring and an inner race bearing member having an inner ring, the inner ring being located within an opening defined by the outer ring. The opening is defined in part by two generally opposed peripheral edges with a spherical concave bearing surface extending therebetween. The inner ring defines a bore extending therethrough and a spherical convex bearing surface engagable with the concave bearing surface defined by the outer ring. A first ring seal is positioned in a first seal groove defined by the outer ring and is inboard of a first face surface defined by the outer ring. The outer and inner rings, or at least portions thereof, are heat treated using one of carburizing, nitriding, or nitrocarburizing.
Abstract:
In a hybrid spherical bearing, a ceramic ball is provided and has a bore extending at least part way there through. A metallic outer race is also provided and has an inner engagement surface contoured to a shape complementary to a shape defined by an outer diameter of the ceramic ball. The ceramic ball is positioned within the outer race and slidably and rotatably engages the inner engagement surface.
Abstract:
An actuator link assembly includes a sleeve member with a sleeve lug on one end. The sleeve lug is a split lug having primary and secondary lug portions. There is a coupling fixture on the sleeve member. There is a rod within the sleeve member with a rod lug between the primary and secondary sleeve lug portions. A locking member engages the rod and the sleeve member. A flight control system has a movable flight control element, a user control device and a linkage system between the control device and the flight control element. The linkage system includes an actuator that is controllable by a user. The system includes the actuator link assembly connected to the flight control element and to the actuator.
